What did you think of SELF STORAGE?
This is a great book for anyone who has ever asked, is that all there is? I found this book very enjoyable. It was a bit quirky, a bit profound, and a lot of fun. I have a new-found respect for self storage units, burqas, and Walt Whitman. It was a nice addition to include Flan's favorite Whitman passages at the end of the book. You really get a hankering to read Whitman after reading SELF STORAGE.

Have you previously read a book by Gayle Brandeis?
I first read Gayle Brandeis's book FRUITFLESH (2002), which details the creative writing process for women. That has been so inspiring over the years that I also went on to read her award-winning novel, THE BOOK OF DEAD BIRDS (2004).
What other authors do you read?
I read a wide variety of authors, old classics and contemporary favorites. Some recent favorite authors include Barbara Kingsolver, Anne Tyler, Jacquelyn Mitchard, Sara Gruen, Tom Perrotta, Kim Edwards, Irene Nemirovsky and Farnoosh Moshiri.
What did you think of SELF STORAGE?
SELF STORAGE is an inspired novel discussing the intersection of the personal and the political. The characters are compelling and interesting, driving the reader to follow along on Flan's surprising journey. The message of pursuing the "Yes" in our lives is such an important one in the face of the all-too-negative realities of the world. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to consider what her inspirations are, and how current polarizing political actions are profoundly influencing our personal lives.
Thank you for the opportunity to have a first glance at a wonderful title.
Would you read a future book by Gayle Brandeis?

What did you think of SELF STORAGE?
This book about a very dysfunctional family is disturbing, but it was interesting to see the characters' love for one another increase as the little girl was in the hospital; but, the son never got the love and respect he needed. So many families live this way now, and the idea that a balanced family would help the world needs to be stressed.
Would you ever read a future book by Gayle Brandeis?
I will read another book by Gayle Brandeis.

What did you think of SELF STORAGE?
SELF STORAGE had me alternately laughing out loud and thinking very philosophically. The characters are believable; I expect to run into Flan with her children at the local park. The story line kept me constantly looking forward to the next page.
While following Flan through her search for the “yes” in her life, I discovered some of the “yes” in my own. I learned to look beneath the surface that we present to each other and find the connections we all share. I will never again look at a stranger or an acquaintance with my eyes and mind filtering them through the offhand "you aren’t a bit like me." More to the point, I’ll be asking questions beneath the surface level to increase my connections with those around me.
Much thanks to Gayle for helping me open a new window in my life. The book SELF STORAGE is a wonderful addition to my library, and I am recommending it to all the readers (and non-readers) I know.
Would you ever read a future book by Gayle Brandeis?

What did you think of SELF STORAGE?
This was such a complex book. It has a lot of different things going on with it. Flan, the main character in the story, was quite a gal. The whole story kept moving. It didn't lag on and on at all. The way Gayle brought all the characters in the book together was great. Thanks for letting me read the book.
Would you ever read a future book by Gayle Brandeis?
Sure, I'll give it a try.
