Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Lisa Grunwald and Stephen J. Adler's WOMEN'S LETTERS.

Jenny from Edgewood, KY

Have you previously read a book by Lisa Grunwald or Stephen J. Adler?
No.

What writers do you read?

Stephen King, Dan Brown, Joanne Harris, J.K. Rowling, Jon Krakauer, Alison Weir (nonfiction/history) and many from the NYT bestseller lists.

What did you think of WOMEN'S LETTERS?

I thought it was an excellent book. It was a very fresh, interesting way to approach history. The size of the book is a little daunting. Fortunately, the format makes it very easy to put down and pick up again in a few days. I would recommend it to any history buff!

Would you ever read a future book by Lisa Grunwald and Stephen J. Adler?

Yes!

Kelly from Westerville, OH

Have you previously read a book by Lisa Grunwald or Stephen J. Adler?
Yes, I have read WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY by Lisa Grunwald.

What writers do you read?

I read all sorts of various writers, but some favorite are Sophie Kinsella, Nicholas Sparks, Candace Bushnell, J.K. Rowling and Alexander McCall Smith.

What did you think of WOMEN'S LETTERS?
I really enjoyed reading WOMEN'S LETTERS. I loved gaining the insight into other peoples lives in various times in our country. I was most intrigued by the amount of devotion that husband's and wives had to each other in the 1700s and 1800s; it's beautiful. I couldn't imagine anyone telling their spouse that they were their loving companion until death these days, but isn't that exactly what they should be? I have recommended this book to many friends. I just love getting a real picture of what women's lives were like.

Would you ever read a future book by Lisa Grunwald and Stephen J. Adler?
I would definitely read another book by them.

R. W. from Haddon Heights, NJ

Have you previously read a book by Lisa Grunwald or Stephen J. Adler?
No, I have not.

What writers do you read?
I read a great variety of things: serious fiction and nonfiction. I am very interested in all things related to the Holocaust and when I need a simple book I go for fiction books about serial killers!!! I usually have two books going. My regular reading book I read downstairs or while waiting for kids to get out of school, in the orthodontists, etc. Then I have my upstairs book, which is usually historical or nonfiction that I read short bits of at night before going to sleep. WOMEN'S LETTERS would be in this category.

What did you think of WOMEN'S LETTERS?
I was extremely impressed with the strength of the woman from all eras. I think the woman who lived to tell about her mastectomy without anesthesia is the most memorable letter of all for me. For the most part, I thought their choice of letters were great. As you got further down the years it was interesting to read letters from people you have heard of and actually seen. Imagine a letter from actress Ruth Gordon at 19 when I had just watched Harold and Maude with my 19-year-old son!

Would you ever read a future book by Lisa Grunwald and Stephen J. Adler?
Yes, I would.

Zara from Decatur, AL

Have you previously read a book by Lisa Grunwald or Stephen J. Adler?

No, I had not previously had the pleasure.

What writers do you read?
I read many different types of books, so the list is numerous. Here are a few: Jane Austen, Wally Lamb, Julie Garwood, Dean Koontz, Nicholas Sparks, Lauren Royal and Alice Sebold.

What did you think of WOMEN'S LETTERS?
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought it was a wonderful reminder of the continuity of the human spirit. Although our environment has changed drastically since the genesis of our country, our hopes, fears, and love remain much the same. That was the resounding message of WOMEN'S LETTERS for me. I finished the book with a feeling of being connected to the remarkable women who came before me as well as those that will come after my parting.

Would you ever read a future book by Lisa Grunwald and Stephen J. Adler?
Yes!
