What writers do you read?
Some of my favorite authors are Binchy, Pilcher, Berg and Dorothea Benton Frank.

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?
I thought is was a very good book with an interesting story line. I would love to see a book group pick this one to read and discuss. There are so many angles and possibilities that can be discussed.

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
I would read another book by Miranda Beverly Whittemore.

What writers do you read?
Miranda reminds me a little bit of Alice Sebold who wrote THE LOVELY BONES.

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?
All in all, I enjoyed reading her new book. A little slow in parts but I was able to read the entire book without any problems. I think the way she wrote in Pru's voice was nice, an added touch as well as the "Proof" part of the book. A photo would have been nice to add somewhere in the text of the book. Just a thought...

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
Yes, I would read another book by Miranda when it is published.

What writers do you read?
A variety of writers. I belong to two book groups where we take turns making the books selection from month to month. A couple of my favorites are Fannie Flagg and Billie Letts. Both books groups consist of all females and we are very into authors who have strong female characters in their books.

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?

I enjoyed the book once I got into it. At first it was a little confusing for me that the author switched from the present with Kate/Myla narrating to the past with Pru narrating. It wasn’t immediately clear to me that the person narrating the past was her sister and not the same person narrating the present. Once I got that straight, the story rolled right along for me.

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
Yes, I would. I think my book clubs would enjoy it as well because Myla comes to terms with her past, so she could have a happy future.

What writers do you read?
I read a wide variety of authors. Some of my favorites include John Grisham, Nora Roberts, Kelley Armstrong, Gregory Maguire, Sandra Brown, Philippa Gregory, Marian Keyes, Audrey Niffenegger, Dan Brown, Louise Bagshawe and Janet Evanovich.

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?
I found this novel very compelling. The way the story unfolds is amazing --- I knew some dark event had occurred and the author teased me just enough to make it difficult to put the book down, yet gave nothing away until she was ready. The air of mystery about the story was obvious and intentional but so necessary in order to make this such a moving story. It was very realistic. In fact, I kept trying to remember if this really happened or perhaps was modeled after a similar real-life situation. I also thought it was brilliant to have a portion of the story narrated by Prudence at different stages of her life.

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
Yes, definitely. I am looking forward to it.

What writers do you read?
My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., and John Irving. I also enjoy reading Pete Hamill, Augusten Burroughs, David Sedaris, Toni Morrison, and Isabelle Allende (to name a few).

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?
I really enjoyed the book. I found it to be quite thought provoking. I plan on rereading it this week. The first read I was interested in the story, now I want to delve into the book and deeply ponder the philosophies of art portrayed in the book. Too bad I can't meet David. I'd find him quite interesting to talk to.

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
I would definitely read another book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore. The cover of the book did not attract me and I almost didn't read the book. I know, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but......

What writers do you read?
I read a variety of authors. I don't usually just stick to one.

What did you think of THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT?
I liked the way that much of the story was told through the eyes of Pru. I really wanted to find out what happened to Pru --- how did she die? I found that I was wrapped in the lives of Myla and her sister. This was a very compelling novel. As a mother, I would not have agreed to let my daughters be photographed as they were, but it was interesting to hear this point of view. It was beautifully written. I would recommend this book for my book group to read.

Would you read a future book by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore?
I certainly would read another book by this author.
