Our Best Of Summer Books!
http://www.bookreporter.com/features/2003_summer_hardcover.asp
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! The weather here in the New York area is dismal. The weather forecast holds a tiny ray of hope for Sunday.

Not daunted by the weather we have our selections for the Best Books of summer. There are three lists this year --- hardcovers, paperbacks and suspense/thriller titles. We hope that you enjoy browsing them as much as we did compiling them. By the way, when we think of summer, we think Beach Reads. Thus many of the titles you see are on the lighter side. There's some chick lit to browse as well as some just plain great fiction. We slipped in only one nonfiction title on the paperback book list. I think we might be saying that the world this year has been a bit too real, and we are encouraging a bit of an escape with our reading list.

This morning I did an early morning appearance on the local CBS network to promote our Summer Lists, and I look forward to talking more about them in the weeks to come. We also will announce a contest for these books on June 6th!

This week's issue is jam-packed with reviews and features to explore. We are getting a tad ahead as I am heading to L.A on Thursday for BEA, the national book trade show. There I will be seeing many of the new fall titles. I promise news about these in the weeks to come.

Have a great long weekend!

SAPPHO'S LEAP by Erica Jong (Fiction)
Reviewed by Roz Shea and excerpted.
Erica Jong takes readers back 2,600 years to inhabit the mind of the greatest love poet the world has ever known. At the age of fourteen, Sappho is seduced by the beautiful poet Alcaeus, plots with him to overthrow the dictator of their island, and is caught and married off to a repellent older man in hopes that matrimony will keep her out of trouble. Instead, it starts her off on a series of amorous adventures with both men and women, taking her from Delphi to Egypt, and even to the Land of the Amazons and the shadowy realm of Hades.
