Happy Holidays and a Look Ahead to 2003
http://www.bookreporter.com/features/happy-holidays-2002.asp
Happy Holidays from all of us at Bookreporter.com. Please click on the link below to read our holiday card. As always, this was one of the most fun projects of the year. I thank my son Greg for patiently helping me stack the books and for taking the photo of our "bookish" present.

As promised, this week we announce the "Best Of" list that was compiled by our readers. You can find a link to the top ten hardcovers and paperbacks below. JWIsley@aol.com won a collection of the ten hardcovers and merlelean@comcast.net won the paperbacks as our random winners. Thanks to all of you who sent in your selections. There were no losers on this list.

As another year-end wrapup, we have compiled a collection of all of the interviews and author talks on Bookreporter.com in 2002. Take a look back at some of the books published this year by reading what the authors had to say, in their own words.

While this is a time for reflection, it's also a time for looking forward. With that in mind, I am happy to share some news about two new projects for 2003.

Connecting readers with authors is a core mission of Bookreporter.com. I often tell people that I thought I was well read until I founded this company and learned I knew the work of about 10% of the authors who were writing. If I had to select my favorite genre, it would be suspense/thriller. I love a story where the plots twist back and forth, and at the end I noodle how all those threads were started and woven together. Based on the results of our weekly polls, I know that many of you feel the same passion for this genre.

For 2003 we will be offering a year-long feature exploring in depth the work of 12 suspense/thriller authors. While many of you know authors like John Grisham, James Patterson and David Baldacci, my goal is to take readers behind the work of authors who are still not household names, but should be. We'll explore their new work --- and their past work, known in the industry as the backlist. By the end of the year the goal is that you will have met 12 new authors, read 12 new books --- and had the opportunity to learn about dozens more.

We will be offering advanced reading copies of the selected titles to readers who would like to share their feedback, pre-publication excerpts, interviews and much much more. The goal is that each participating author will bring something special to this part of Bookreporter.com. By the way, we are still working on a name for this feature, which will be announced in January. Suggestions are welcome! Drop me a note at Carol@bookreporter.com if you have ideas!

For our first two authors --- Stephen Frey in January and Stephen White in February --- we are offering a special advanced reading promotion this week. See below for more details.

In January we also will launch AuthorYellowPages.com, a searchable directory of author websites where readers can search author websites by name and genre. As the Internet has become an important resource for readers, we look forward to sharing this new website with you. More to come on this right after the first of the year!

We are taking a break to read and relax over the holidays. The next newsletter will arrive in your mailboxes on Friday, January 10th. We're leaving you with a lot to explore. And while we are gone I hope you will continue to share what you are reading by writing us at Word of Mouth.

Here's wishing you all a holiday season filled with time-honored traditions and a chance to make some new memories. And yes, a few good books.

Happy New Year....
