Dear Reader:

Thanks to all of you who shared your own favorite titles that were "ripped from the headlines." Among the books that were shared were these three titles on fires and forest fire fighting --- VERTICAL BURN by Earl Emerson, YOUNG MEN AND FIRE by Norman Maclean and Nevada Barr's FIRE STORM. This morning's news story about the return of Danny Pearl's body to his family spurs me to suggest you read AT HOME IN THE WORLD, the collected writings of Daniel Pearl from The Wall Street Journal. There is a beautiful foreward by his wife Mariane. Reading through his writing will give you a look many news stories you might have missed, and an inside look at a writer who truly was at home all over the world.

We have a VERY full lineup this week with over 25 reviews, as well as an in-depth interview with John Jakes, author of CHARLESTON. Jakes is also our AuthorsOnTheWeb Author of the Month, so if you are not familiar with his work, these features will give you a lot of background on him and his writing.

ReadingGroupGuides.com has been updated for August. There are now 950 reading guide available. We also added a section on the home page that lists the books being read by the USA Today, Good Morning America, Today Show and Reading With Ripa book clubs.

Be sure to check your mailbox for this newsletter next week. An author has asked us to survey readers about possible book titles for his book. Always fun to do that!

We have the winners in our Summer Beach Reads Contest. The winners of the 12 hardcovers are robandkris631@worldnet.att.net, loveonetaz@hotmail.com, Shell725@aol.com, kbathgate@earthlink.net and micheleserrani@carolina.rr.com. The five winners of the 12 paperback titles are winners are SCawthon@ScholasticBookfairs.com, BahamaValF@aol.com,sbaz4@bellsouth.net.
Ameus@aol.com and pnichols@woodruffelectric.com.

Don't forget our latest contest. Answer three questions based on our Authors' Summer Reading Lists and you could be the winner of three free books!

And now...this week's lineup....
