Dear Reader:
Last weekend I started THE DIVE FROM CLAUSEN'S PIER, a book that is getting a lot of buzz this summer. I enjoyed it so much that I found myself reading at 5AM one morning when I realized I was not going to accomplish ANYTHING else this week unless I finished it! It was that enveloping. The story opens on Memorial Day weekend when Carrie and her fiance, Mike, are at a Wisconsin lake celebrating the holiday with friends. Mike dives into the lake at a wrong angle, and is paralyzed. What follows is the story of how Carrie copes --- or does not cope --- with Mike's situation. It's a terrific effort for a debut novelist. It's also a book that will drive a lot of discussion. While I had some problems with the character development and there were two metaphors I would have liked to see handled differently, I think it's one powerful book that takes me away like this. I found myself looking at the ReadingGroupGuide for the book as I wanted someone to discuss it with!
We have a very full lineup this week including 4 new author interviews, 7 new features and 3 new reviews! I have read most of the books --- about 85% --- that we are featuring this week. One was better than the next --- and some are names that you encounter everyday. The true pleasure of bringing books to our readers is sharing titles that you just might miss without a nudge.
Remember our Summer Beach Reads Contest ends on July 25th so get your entries in NOW! This week we are featuring 10 entries that we randomly selected. Hope you enjoy them.
Also this week kicks off a series of Trivia Contests based on our Author Summer Reading Lists. See below for details on how you could win 3 books for answering 3 questions. Sounds fun, right?
Next week things will be much lighter, so you will have some time to catch up! I am traveling on business to California and Denver (the Christian Booksellers Convention and the Romance Writers of America Conference). Now...read on...and don't miss a word....
