Dear Reader:
As part of our ongoing mission to give you great summer reading ideas, we bring you our latest feature --- Authors' Summer Reading Lists. Over 100 authors have shared their summer reading lists with us. So if you still are wondering what to read, why not check in with one of your favorite authors? Or, pick a few names at random, and see what they are reading. Beginning July 12th we will be running contests using these lists for the rest of the summer. The prizes: books!
When Christopher Byron was writing his book Martha Inc.: The Incredible Story of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, who knew that his subject would be embroiled in scandal and controversy shortly after the pub date? Oh Martha Martha Martha.
Parents --- and grandparents --- here's a tip for kids' summer reading that has been working well in our house. I started my boys on a summer reading program here. Each of them has a "reading goal" with prizes attached. They are having a blast recording their titles on the whiteboard in my office at home, and it is a no-pressure way to encourage reading. And for the record, audiobooks count!
This weekend I am going to read LOVELY BONES by Alice Sebold. Joe Hartlaub, our reviewer was awed by the power of Sebold's writing. Likewise another reviewer, Roberta O'Hara was wild about FLESH TONES by M.J. Rose. I read this one when it was still in manuscript and could not put it down.
Please note that next week's newsletter will arrive in your mailboxes on Wednesday. We are taking a long weekend to celebrate the 4th of July.
