Dear Reader:
I spent part of Monday with Margaret George, author of MARY, CALLED MAGDALENE. She was in New York for part of her book tour. We had worked together over the past few months building her website --- MargaretGeorge.com and I so enjoyed our conversations about books --- and life. Her stories about how she conducts her research for her work are riveting. Thursday morning I did a short piece on CBS TV in New York about great summer books for kids. We are talking about my doing the same kind of show about great summer beach reads for grownups in the next few weeks. Will keep you posted as I know more.
Last Sunday my older son and I had a rather fun bookish adventure at the beach. We took a bike ride around Spring Lake trying to find all the locations mentioned in the Mary Higgins Clark book ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE (now out in paperback), which takes place in this town. Clark has a home in Spring Lake and she did a terrific job of capturing its charm. Quick hint. Best that we can figure out, the hotel pictured on the cover is the Hewitt Wellington! We currently are running three contests --- a new one for Audiobooks, FLESH TONES and Summer Beach Reads Contest. I am enjoying reading your contest entries for the Summer Beach Reads Contest -- great suggestions for stocking a summer beach house. We will be sharing those on the website in July.
Keeping you up to speed with what America is reading --- SNOW IN AUGUST by Pete Hamill is one of the regional favorites of Connecticut and the governor is encouraging the entire state read the book.
