Dear Reader:

I often use Bookreporter.com as MY guide to what to read. Last weekend I escaped to a lawnchair (ostensibly to lifeguard the boys while they swam) and read David Halberstam's FIREHOUSE, which is one of the selections in our Father's Day Roundup - PERFECT GIFTS FOR DAD. By the time I finished it, it was nearly dinner time, and the boys were long gone from the pool. For those of you who do not know the story, it's about Engine 40, Ladder 35, one of the firehouses most actively involved in the rescue at the World Trade Center. It is one very powerful read --- and gives an insider perspective on 9/11. What I learned reading this book is that this firehouse would be one of those that would respond if there was ever a fire in our office on 57th Street. Knowing that made the story all the more personal reading.

When I am not reading, I love going to the movies. This week I went to a premiere of Windtalkers, which was really good. In all the reading I have done on World War II this story evaded me. Be sure to look for the two books about this movie in our Books Into Movies Section on the home page of Bookreporter.com. Also, our Editorial Manager Ann Bruns talks about "all things Bourne" in a special feature as The Bourne Identity releases in theatres today. I loved the Bourne series.

As I write this there is one very soggy U.S.Open going on. I know --- "it never rains on the golf course." For more on the world of golf, be sure to check out our feature --- FORE! - Summer Golf Reading.

Since we started Bookreporter.com we have been huge cheerleaders for Debut Authors. This week we bring you our 2002 Debut Author Roundtable. a "conversation" with 17 debut authors. And a look back at the 2001 Authors --- and where they are now. Take a look and then be sure to answer our Poll and Question of the Week, which both have to do with Debut Authors.

Search. How many times have you asked us for this feature? Well, we listened. See the Search button on the right hand side of Bookreporter.com. You can search each of our websites --- as well as the entire web --- from this feature. Enjoy!

Onto the content for the week...and Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.
