Dear Reader:

Well this week just zipped by! I spent Mother's Day reading THE PUZZLE BARK TREE by Stephanie Gertler, which will be out in June. She was one of the authors in our Debut Author Roundtable last June when her first book, JIMMY'S GIRL (now available in paperback) came out. Pleased to share that I enjoyed PUZZLE BARK as much as her debut!

Currently I am doing double reading duty with THE LOBSTER CHRONICLES by Linda Greenlaw due out July 1st (she wrote THE HUNGRY OCEAN) and SISTERS MALLONE: Una Storia Di Famiglia by Louisa Ermelino. (Her previous novel THE BLACK MADONNA is out in paperback in June.) Each of these is a wonderful "sophomore" effort. There are so many times I find that an author's "sophomore" title is nowhere near as exciting as his or her first book. Do you find the same thing? Write me at Carol@bookreporter.com and let me know what you think.

This week I realized that my "to be read" pile has grown from my nighttable to three huge stacks on my dressers. There is still a real rush in finding a new author or a title that intrigues me...and then I equally enjoy sharing my "finds" with you!

If you have not yet answered our READER SURVEY about Author Websites, please take a few minutes to do that now. We would like your input as we develop the website that we are launching this fall --- AuthorYellowPages.com, a searchable directory of author websites!

Next week summer kicks in with Bookreporter.com's Summer Reading Lists --- both in Hardcover and Paperback --- and Our Summer Reading Contest. You are going to LOVE the prizes!

This Week's Question

Did you ever have a bookbuying experience that was particularly memorable?

Respond to the question of the week by sending mail to: Question@bookreporter.com.

Bookreporter Readers Say...

Are there some books you choose to buy in hardcover, while others you select in paperback? If so, why? While reviewing the replies we noticed two major trends:

  • Many readers collect hardcover copies of their favorite authors because they keep longer
  • Many readers "experiment" with authors in paperback because of cost
As readers we know all to well the role money plays in our personal book buying! Because of this Bookreporter.com consistently highlights paperbacks in our monthly New and Notable in Paperback features (for both fiction and nonfiction books) as well as our book reviews. We hope you paperback lovers will explore these features and discover some new-to-you authors to try.

Poll:

If you have a choice, which do you like to shop for most? Please pick only one.
