Dear Reader:
First, a note of apology to everyone who received last week's newsletter from MarleneT@aol.com a second time on Wednesday. Marlene is Marlene Taylor, our Community Leader. She bought a new laptop this week, tested the List Serv software thinking she was only sending the newsletter to herself as a test. Instead....everyone got it. Please note that your email address and privacy have not been compromised. We appreciate your understanding.
Had fun preparing this week's update. First, Roberta O'Hara, one of our reviewers and I interviewed Kate White, the author of IF LOOKS COULD KILL. I have known Kate for years (since my own magazine days) and it was a real pleasure to hear her talk about her new book --- and her runaway success.
Then I made a list of some books I think would make great Mother's Day presents --- LET US EAT CAKE by Sharon Boorstin, GARDEN OF FAITH by Lynne Hinton, CHAPTERS by Candice Carpenter, DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD by Rebecca Wells, HOUSEHUSBAND by Ad Hudler and MIRACLES HAPPEN by Brooke and Jean Ellison (we will have a special feature on this title next week, with an interview). More on these books and more favorites to come next week.
Still stumped on what to buy mom? Here's a thought. Take a look at the new paperback titles in our New in Paperback section, or those noted on ReadingGroupGuides.com. Then make a basket of books for mom!
This weekend Book Expo America (BEA), the annual book convention will be in New York at the Javits Center. For a few VERY busy days publishers, authors, booksellers and other industry professionals gather to talk books, look at books and yes, visit with each other. I am looking forward to it --- will give me a chance to plan out the fall/winter titles we will be bringing you!
Two quick notes --- REVENGE, which we are reviewing this week is very timely with all that is going on in the Middle East. Our Don't Miss title was selected by my very precocious 12-year-old son --- LUSITANIA: An Epic Tragedy by Diana Preston. He discovered the book in the office one day and has been reading it for weeks. It's interesting to watch a child discover a book. At this point he knows a lot more about the start of World War I than me. For the record, the anniversary of the sinking is May 8th.
Enjoy!
