Dear Reader:

Thanks to all of you who weighed in with your thoughts about Oprah discontinuing her Book Club. While a couple of you lamented its passing, many more of you felt that the Club's popularity had waned in the past year. The emails that I really sparked to were the ones from readers mentioning that they found themselves turning to Word of Mouth more than Oprah these past few months.

More good news this week as ReadingGroupGuides.com was cited by USA Today as one of the top websites of the day. In Wednesday's USA Today Online Web Guide, our site was highlighted as a terrific alternative to Oprah for book clubs to use for their reading selections. As always, I encourage you to take a look at these guides for ideas of what to read as well as a place to get a new take on a book after you finish it.

Over 1182 of you answered last week's poll asking what authors you felt deserved recognition for their contributions to literature. Ann Bruns, our Editorial Manager noted last night the diverse number of genres selected in both the men's and women's categories. Here are your top votes:

Female Authors: Maya Angelou, J.K. Rowling, Anne Rice, Barbara Kingsolver and Anne Tyler

Male Authors: John Grisham, Issac Asimov, Tom Clancy, E.L. Doctorow and James Clavell

In the next few weeks we plan to in delve into some authors and titles that have become classics in the past 75 years as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Random House publishers with them. I think you will like what we are cooking up.

Publisher's Pick

The House on Sprucewood Lane by Caroline Slate combines psychological insight
with gripping suspense in a story of the sexualization and abuse of a young girl.

"[The] characters are so rounded you can hear their ragged breathing" --- Publisher's Weekly

"Setting off from a news story that intrigued us all, Slate has made the story her own
and a compelling read." --- Judith Rossner, author of Looking for Mr. Goodbar

This Week's Question/ Poetry Month Contest
On February 22, 1952, Dylan Thomas made his first recording for Caedmon Records, launching not only Caedmon, but the spoken-word industry as well. In celebration of 50 years of spoken-word publishing and National Poetry Month, we are giving away 5 copies of THE CAEDMON POETRY COLLECTION. Five readers will be randomly chosen from those responding to this week's question: What is your favorite poem and who wrote it? Respond to the question of the week by sending mail to: Question@bookreporter.com.

Poll:

Last week marked the beginning of our month-long celebration of Poetry. In this week's Poll we want to know your feelings on the subject.
Poetry to me is:
- The way I express important feelings
- Where I go for for comfort and relaxation
- Words to memorize and quote
- The works of Dr.Seuss or other authors who rhyme
- A Hallmark greeting card
