Dear Reader:
I love Thanksgiving weekend. First I get to cook, which I love. This year I have planned a rather ambitious holiday menu that will have me chopping vegetables most of the night tonight. I figure this will be at least a three-Band-Aid night!
One stumbling block for me has been creating the perfect pie crust. Mine never looks or tastes like those who are more skilled at pastry, but I am trying to figure out what went wrong. This year there is a book out that I have been studying called BAKER'S DOZEN. What's in there are endless tips on what may have gone wrong --- and how to make it right. The book came out of a group of chefs in the Bay Area who gathered together to talk about their baking experiences and exchange tips. The book has guidelines for how to start a Baker's Dozen club of your own. Think of it like a book club where, instead of talking about a book, you bring what you've made and share it with others. Curious? Check out BakersDozen.org for more info.
Loved the notes from all of you who saw the Harry Potter movie last weekend. What a fun BIG movie. I sat there watching my boys look wide-eyed and I was remembering my first big movie as a kid --- Babes in Toyland. Decided to have some fun with this and created the Harry Potter Poll on Kidsreads.com and see what others are saying about the movie, too. Enjoy!
Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday roller-coaster ride. A book came across our desks by Sarah Ban Breathnach that takes a look at holiday traditions throughout the year by harkening back to Victorian times. It has beautiful illustrations and some wonderful ideas that you can incorporate into your family activities.
A holiday weekend means there is more time for reading as well as eating. What's next on my list --- DESECRATION, the new book in the Left Behind series. I have been chomping at the bit to read this one. More on the series and this book next week.
We have a very light update this week. Look for lots more from us next week including our "Best Of" lists. Start thinking about what YOU consider to be the Book of the Year.
Here are wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving from all of us at The Book Report Network. Thanks for being readers, which means so much to us.
