A New Beginning --- And a Round of Applause

We are in the final stages of an office renovation that is going to give us about two-thirds more space than we had before. I have spent the last three weeks watching walls come down and go up. I have made what seems like a zillion decisions about things I knew very little about a few weeks ago --- like faceplates for wiring, transferring data and phone lines, and what colors ducts should be painted. I also have heard my name called over and over again by the various folks on the construction crew until I seriously thought maybe I should say, "You know what? My name is really Susan, not Carol," just to see what they would say.

Change like this is exciting --- and at times terrifying. I keep telling myself that we needed this move, but as we got further and further into this project I found myself constantly questioning myself as well. Through this entire process the rest of the staff was working from home --- a move necessary since the distractions here were pretty overwhelming. What's interesting is that most of the authors and publishers with whom we work had NO idea that we were undergoing a renovation. The team was working the same way they always did, with the same level of professionalism and rapid response. If anything, I was the slow one since I was being dragged away from my laptop a lot (my desktop was out of commission about two weeks into the construction) usually mid-thought or mid-sentence.

I never have dedicated a FaithfulReader.com update to anyone, but this time I am. Here's to a terrific team who kept the work going via Instant Message and email. They all will be back in the office on Wednesday --- and our new bigger space will allow us to add three new faces to the team in the next few weeks. It will give us even more opportunity to bring you the books and authors that will inspire, uplift and invigorate you. Please give the team a few mouse clicks with me and share in my enthusiasm for them.

Enjoy this month's lineup. We'll see you again in September. Have a great August of reading!
