Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Deanna Raybourn's SILENT IN THE GRAVE.

Cam from Murrells Inlet, SC

What mystery writers do you read?
My favorites are P.D. James, Peter Robinson, Elizabeth George and Deborah Crombie.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I was hooked right from the beginning chapters. It was a fast-paced, well-written mystery. I enjoyed the characters, from Julia and Nicholas, Fleur and Portia, to Aquinas and the Queen's Raven!

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
Yes,  I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

Jean from Salt Lake City, UT

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I want to begin by thanking you for sending me an advance copy of SILENT IN THE GRAVE. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I must admit that the length of the book was a tad daunting at first, but once I started reading, I was totally immersed. I found it to be [both fascinating and fast moving]. Deanna Raybourn did an excellent job of capturing both time and place. There was real depth to the novel and its characters, and I loved the romantic tension between Julia and Brisbane. I also found myself not only lost in the story, but in Victorian England as well. It was a wonderful escape. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I read a lot of books, mostly mysteries, so I consider myself a fair critic about what is good and what is not.

I'm not certain if all your advance copy choices are this good, but if they are... wow!

Again, thanks for the book. I truly loved it! Kudos to Deanna Raybourn for a job well done.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
I would definitely read another book by Deanna Raybourn. I usually don't read Victorian mysteries, but I found that this awakened my curiosity for this time period.

Jonathan from Vienna, VA

What mystery writers do you read?
Phillip Kerr, Len Deighton, Martin Cruz Smith, John le Carré, and many others.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
It is a great read. I enjoyed the accurate scenery of Victorian England from Lady Jane Grey’s perspective. I usually enjoy mysteries set in more recent times, but SILENT IN THE GRAVE really drew me in. The book is captivating. The author provided enough background information without lecturing, as some authors do. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, since I tend to read mysteries set in more modern times. Anyone who enjoys a good mystery will enjoy this, even if they don’t usually read Victorians.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
Yes. I look forward to the next book in what I hope to be a series.

Krystal from Paynesville,WV

What mystery writers do you read?
My favorite mystery writers would have to be Deanna Raybourn, James Patterson, Nora Roberts and Linda Fairstein.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE? Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
I thought SILENT IN THE GRAVE was a very good book. It was very suprising by all accounts. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by Deanna Raybourn. She is an outstanding author. Thanks for the chance to read such a great book.

Linda from San Jose, CA

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I liked SILENT IN THE GRAVE by Deanna Raybourn very much. I hope she writes many more novels. Thank you so much for letting me "preview" the book. I will certainly recommend it to my friends who like mysteries.

Sandi from Monroeville, PA

What mystery writers do you read?
Oh, gosh, I read so many!  But here's a sample: Nick Sharratt (TURNING POINT), Peter Robinson,  James Lee Burke, Jan Burke, Carol O'Connell, Laurie R. King, Donna Leon, Steve Hamilton, Lisa Scottoline, Ian Rankin, P. J. Tracy, Diana Sutterfield (THE THIRTEENTH TALE), Elizabeth George, P. J. Parrish and Giles Blunt.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I really enjoyed this novel --- it was so intriguing! I took it with me everywhere before I finally finished it. I think I'll read it again, just to enjoy the prose. I did take me a while to really get into it, but then I couldn't get enough. I [figured] out who was really behind everything about 3/4 of the way through, but it did not dampen my enthusiasm. The only thing that I did not find believable is Julia going all over the place on her own. That didn't ring true. Brisbane was an intriguing character, and I would love to meet him in person! I loved all the different scenarios, especially about the gypsies.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
Absolutely!

Sandra from West Farmington, OH

What mystery writers do you read?
I enjoy Patricia Cornwell, Tess Gerrittsen, Sue Grafton, Tony Hillerman, Dean Koontz, John Sandford, Sharon McCrumb, Tami Hoag and now Deanna Raybourne.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I haven't really read very many historical mysteries, but this book kept me glued page after page. I absolutely loved the characters, the story line, and the period it took place. Just when I thought I had it figured out, there was another twist or turn. I hated to see it end.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourne?
Yes, I can't wait! I've also told everyone I know about her book and how good it was.

Thank you for picking me to read and respond about this book. I enjoyed it so much.

Connie from Thomaston, GA

What mystery writers do you read?
Mystery writers that I read: Sue Grafton, Stuart Woods, James Patterson, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, Sara Paretsky, J.A. Jance and Janet Evanovich. There are others, but for the life of me, I just couldn't think of any more!

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I wished I could tell you that I loved this book and that it was a thrilling "can't put down" page-turner, but I can't. For some reason, I had a really hard time getting into the storyline, and after the first couple hundred pages, Ijust had to skim through it to finish it. To be fair, though, I'm not crazy about stories that are set in Victorian times and have a hard time getting through almost any story with that setting.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
Yes, I would read another of Ms. Raybourn's books, as long as it isn't set in the Victorian Era. Again, thank you so much for selecting me as a winner.

Diana from Upper Marlboro, MD

What mystery writers do you read?
I read Violet Winspear, Laura Lippman, Ruth Rendell, John Grisham and Carl Hiassen, to name a few.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
When I saw the information on Bookreporter.com I was intrigued, but while reading the book, I was disappointed. I did not find the mystery plot unique or the characters interesting. I felt that Lady Jane Grey was not true to the culture of the time. It is hard to imagine that a loving, wealthy, Victorian father would allow his newly widowed and very wealthy daughter to run so wild. And Society would have been aghast at her behavior. This was, to me, just a longer Gothic Romance, which is not my favorite genre. I also saw evidence that a sequel was planned. I want to want a continuing story, not feel that I have to read the next, and the next, etc., to tie up loose ends in the first.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
I might try another Deanna Raybourne title, but probably not if it were another Lady Julia mystery. I know of people who like Gothics and would recommend it to them, but with [a caution] that they may not like it.

Jill from Stockbridge, GA

What mystery writers do you read?
I usually read Patricia Sprinkle, Kathy Reichs and Sandra Brown.

What did you think of SILENT IN THE GRAVE?
I really liked it. I don't usually read historical mystery fiction. One of the drawbacks of reading mysteries is sometimes you figure out the "villain." It was kind of easy to figure out who "did it," but I did like the way she had me second guessing myself. I did wish she had added a little more romance, but that is my own preference.

Would you ever read a future book by Deanna Raybourn?
I would probably read a future book.
