Hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of young writers work each year
to find a voice for their particular life experience and translate
that into the equivalent of the Great American Novel. Many of them
get an opportunity to see their books in print, but it is the rare
few that manage to actually get published and noticed and well-reviewed.
Every few months we at Book Report try to take a look at a batch
of the new arrivals and see how the search for the GAN is progressing.
From the Galway of JUNO
& JULIET by Julian Gough, to the asylum for the gifted and romantic
in THE MUSE ASYLUM by
David Czuchlewski, from Christina Chiu's stories about Asian-American
assimilation in TROUBLEMAKER
AND OTHER SAINTS to the American-in-Japan odyssey that makes
up the powerful story of Sara Backer's AMERICAN
FUJI, from the comic novel KARLMARX.COM
by Susan Coll to the episodic novel MARY
AND O'NEIL by Justin Cronin to BOY
STILL MISSING by John Searles, the array of interesting and
genuinely new voices available on the market today show that literature
is alive and healthy. Last but not least, Manil Suri's THE
DEATH OF VISHNU, in particular, brings us into a world that
we would have never encountered otherwise had this exciting author
not decided to put pen to paper.
The Book Report is happy to bring you these debut authors--- we
hope you will let us know which books you have enjoyed and which
authors you believe we all will be hearing from again in the near
future. To read and learn about the writing habits, advice, and
future plans of other rising stars, please visit http://www.authorsontheweb.com.
