On September 12, the winners of the 2007 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Awards were announced. Now in its thirteenth year, the awards are presented annually to six female writers who demonstrate excellence and promise in the early stages of their writing careers. The recipients will be given a $25,000 cash prize at a ceremony to be held in New York City on September 27.
Author Rona Jaffe established the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Awards Program in 1995 and is the only national literary award dedicated to supporting women writers exclusively. Over the past 13 years, the Foundation has awarded $750,000 to a total of 86 women.
This year's Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award Winners are Elif Batuman (nonfiction/fiction), Sarah Braunstein (fiction), Robin Ekiss (poetry), Alma García (fiction), Jennifer Grotz (poetry), and Holly Goddard Jones (fiction).
