I enjoyed the narration a lot. I would definitely listen to another book narrated by Nick Sullivan. He reminds me a lot of the narrator for Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series.

This book was enjoyable. It wasn't exactly edge-of-your-seat excitement, but it kept me interested. The ending had a nice twist to it, which I always like. I'll be reading the next book in the series.

Divisidero by Michael Ondaatje
Narrator Name: Hope Davis

Rating the Audio Performance
5
This book and the audio performance by Hope Davis is so compelling that I've bought it and listened to it twice. Ms. Davis, as an actress, is able to bring the characters' emotions and individual personalities to life. She also is able to render beautifully Ondaatje's lovely prose. Ms. Davis is also narrates the bit of French in the book convincingly. The best audiobook performance I've heard.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Michael Ondaatje is one of my favorite author's and this is one of his best books. It follows the lives of two sisters, Anna and Claire, one adopted, and that of a boy, Coop, who was raised with them as a hired hand when his parents are murdered. After a horrific scene of violence when the girls' father find that the Coop and Anna are lovers, the three young people's stories diverge. The young man becomes a professional gambler, Claire, an investigator for a lawyer, and Anna, a translator and biographer of living in France. The novel follows three of them as Claire and Coop cross paths and Anna falls in love in France. Then novel becomes a second story, following the life of the French writer, Lucien Segura, whose biography Anna is writing.

A Mother's Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold
Narrator Name: Sue Klebold

Rating the Audio Performance
5
In this brutally honest telling of her son's role in the Columbine shooting, Sue Klebold shares the terrible outcome of adolescent depression leading to her son to commit murder-suicide. Her grief, sorrow, remorse, and love for her son shine through in this compelling story.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

For 15 years we have wondered how a teenager from a middle class family could commit the atrocities of Columbine. In this brave recounting of the life of her son, Dylan, Sue shares the story of his struggle with depression that was not known until after his death. Sue's crusade is to inform parents, counselor, doctors, clergy and anyone who works with youth on the signs of depression. With the suicide rate a leading cause of death in teens, this book is an important read for all.

Be Frank With Me by Julia Claiborne Johnson
Narrator Name: Tavia Gilbert

Rating the Audio Performance
5
Tavia Gilbert is really one of the best at doing audio narration. In this quirky and endearing story she is able to convey the thoughts of a 9-year-old boy (who clearly has Asperger's though it is never stated as such) and the adult voices, both male and female. Very well done.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4
Alice is sent by the publisher she works for to assist a reclusive writer in writing her next great novel. Most of her duties are not literary in nature but rather to help the writer care for her 9-year-old son, Frank, who is a handful, to say the least. The character of Frank is really fun to read, and his interactions with the adults in his life are both literal and insightful at the same time. I was a bit disappointed in the ending, and actually rewound the audio to see if I had missed something or if the audio had skipped because the ending seemed rather abrupt and not very satisfying. But I did enjoy the journey of reading this book and getting to know the characters. If you liked THE ROSIE PROJECT, you'll enjoy this one.

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
Narrator Name: Stephen Hoye

Rating the Audio Performance
2
Stephen Hoye does a fine job narrating the audiobook, which is based on the newer edition. But there is something about his voice that just irritated me in this performance, and lessened my enjoyment. I stopped listening about half-way through and finished by reading the text.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Bradbury’s first published book (1950) is an anthology of connected short stories centering on men escaping an Earth about to be destroyed by war for a chance at a new beginning on the red planet. I first read this in about 1962 and it remains a favorite. The original book was set from 1999-2026; an updated edition in 1997 forwarded the time frame by 31 years to 2030-2057. A couple of stories which were dated were swapped for new stories in the new edition.

Anne
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
Narrator Name: Lindy Nettleton, Johnny Heller, Tom Taylorson and Andi Arndt

Rating the Audio Performance
4
I found the 4 very different voices of the narrators distracting. Eve's very British voice contrasted sharply with Gabe's "South-side" detective voice and Colin's "thuggish criminal" voice. The voices took away from the story as I had to focus hard on listening and translating the accents in my head. Mia's voice was heard only at the end of the story, although hers was the easiest to listen to.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
The ending was a real shocker and it completely changed my perception of the story. I'd wondered why Mia was so complacent during the kidnapping. The story has so many sides and left me with much to think about.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
Narrator Name: Barry Bostwick

Rating the Audio Performance
5
I felt like I was listening to an old friend read to me, much like the main character is doing in the story. Even though I knew the outcome from seeing the movie version of the book, by the end I was crying my way through listening to this wonderful story of love and devotion. Mr. Bostwick was a perfect choice to be the voice of the main character and story.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
The storyline is one that is universal - and wished for by everyone who enters marriage or a relationship with "the love of my life". That this type of love comes with a price is not what most love stories hone in on. The storyline addressed both the easy aspect and the hard - when the situation seems hopeless the narrator proves that there is a way for love to shine on and conquer, even if it is for only a few beautiful moments.

Patricia
Dead Connection by Alafair Burke
Narrator Name: Christopher Lane

Rating the Audio Performance
5
I really liked the audio performance. I was surprised at first that the book was being read by a man (since the main character is a woman), but I ended up not being bothered by that at all. Sometimes male readers don't do a great job with women's voices. But this narrator did just fine. I'd definitely listen to a book read by this narrator again.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4
This was my first time reading Burke and I really enjoyed it. I did end up guessing who the killer was towards the end. But it was pretty far into the book, so that wasn't too bad. I liked the characters a lot. The story kept me intrigued throughout. I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Razzle Dazzle: The Battle for Broadway by Michael Riedel
Narrator Name: Peter Berkrot

Rating the Audio Performance
5
The narrator was clearly familiar with the material and knew just how to read it. Since this is a non-fiction history rather than a narrative with a plot, there is a lot of information and it is all delivered with flair by Peter Berkrot. Great narrator.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
This is my favorite audiobook of 2016 so far (and favorite book overall). I already know a lot about the history of Broadway but most of this book was news to me. I found it pretty much riveting from the very beginning to the very end. I was sad when it was over. That is a sign of a great book. So much history! A lot was missed sadly...this should have been a 10 volume series. Great book!

The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough
Narrator Name: Edward Herrmann

Rating the Audio Performance
5
Mr. Herrmann's voice is perfect for this story - clear, concise with expression; easily understood; and held our attention.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4
This is an incredible story with lots of background on the town, the dam, and the people involved. Some of the details may be extraneous, but there is much to know about the events leading up to that devastating day. The disadvantage to listening to this on a long car trip is that I wasn't able to look at a map to help me figure out where the various locations were. The writing is superb and paints a great picture of life in 1880's America. The sheer enormity of the disaster is described vividly and with compassion for the victims. The aftermath and subsequent lack of any admission of culpability is depressing and infuriating.

The Great Santini by Pat Conroy
Narrator Name: Dick Hill

Rating the Audio Performance
5
Dick Hill was Bull Meechum. The audio was even more enjoyable than reading the book. He even pulled off the other family members. In addition to Bull, another favorite character was his daughter, Mary Anne. I would be driving down the road and be laughing out loud. What a great author. He is missed. I will be listening to more of his books this year.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
THE GREAT SANTINI, a classic, was Pat Conroy's first book. It is the story of a Midwestern father, a Marine pilot, a mother from the South, with all the Southern charm, and their four children. The story begins with them moving to South Carolina and details the difficulty of the children fitting into their new environment. This book was based on his own family.

The Furies by Natalie Haynes
Narrator Name: Zara Ramm

Rating the Audio Performance

The reader was excellent. She narrated the story perfectly. To me the reader makes or breaks the book for me, and in this case the reader enhanced the story. I would definitely look for more books read by her.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4
With the exception of the ending, which fell flat for me, I loved the book. It was a very different story that held my attention from the first page. I am an avid reader and often the storylines are very much the same. To find a unique story is very exciting, and this one was. The main character is a teacher, suffering from her own losses, and through the usd of Greek tragedy plot-lines she tries to reach troubled, unmotivated, and sometimes dangerous teens. The novel reminded me of the movie "To Sir with Love", with a twist.

Linda Zarett
Longbourne by Jo Baker
Narrator Name: Emma Fielding

Rating the Audio Performance
5
This narrator was perfect for the story. She made the story come alive, and she did an exceptional job portraying the characters. This story was tricky in the sense that it takes on a well-known and beloved story and tells it from a different perspective. It was important that the reader trust the narrator, and I found her to be very believable.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4
I thought this was a very clever way to present a new version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, from the staff's perspective. In this telling, the well-known story is in the periphery while the newer account takes center stage. It was very well done. My only complaint was with the ending felt rushed and paled in comparison to the rest of the novel.

Rating the Audio Performance

There are four different narrators in this audiobook, each portraying one of the four main characters in the book. This works well as the story is told from the point of view of each character. Each one sounds like you would expect and does a good job of expressing the varying emotions expressed in the book: fear, bombast, longing. A friend recommended the audio version of this book and I understand why, now that I have heard it myself.

This YA book is based on a true story of a ship which sank towards the end of WW II, in which almost 10,000 people died. I have read a lot about WW II and I never heard of this event. I liked it as it was told from different points of view and countries than usually featured in other historical fiction books on the period.

There are some books that are meant to be read, and this cries out to be one of them. It is unique because it covers the Holocaust, mainly known for the brutal murder of Jews in an effort to make them extinct, without covering them or diminishing their importance in the process. Rather it exposes another horrific story, the experience of "the rabbits", a little known chapter of the Holocaust which affected victims from many walks of life and backgrounds. These victims who were rounded up and arrested as political prisoners, some of whom may also have been Jewish, were gypsies, lesbians, members of the underground and anyone else considered deviant and unsuitable by Hitler’s standards. They became human guinea pigs.

I loved this book so much. I was skeptical when I found out that Robert Galbraith is really J.K. Rowling. This may come as a surprise, but I've never read any of the Harry Potter books. (Shocking, I know.) But I've never been a big fan of YA books. So when I found out Rowling had actually written this, I was skeptical that I would like it. But the book is definitely for adults (not in a bad way). I really loved her writing style. I loved the characters and the storyline was so intriguing and kept me interested and guessing the entire time - and this book was a few hours longer than the books I normally listen to! I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Candace Thaxton did a very good job reading the story and performing with the various accents. She gave a subtle performance and didn't over-act. I loved reading about a time and characters from New York City's colorful past. Truman Capote and his society ladies lived during a time of elegance, style and decorum. This is also a story of "all that is gilded is not golden." The book has two voices, therefore two narrators. One voice is Amy who is a bibliophile from Iowa who is voiced by Lorelei King. The other character is Sara from Sweden, Amy's pen pal and has the British voice of Fiona Hardingham. This bothered me. Why was a Brit voicing a Swede? She did a good job, but I kept voicing this concern in my own head while I was listening to the entire book. I never lost this question.

THE SNOWMAN was a great story. I did not figure out who the villain was until near the end, and Nesbo keeps your attention with the twists and turns of the story. Parts of the story were a little graphic and scary, but not needlessly. I would not want to meet the Snowman in real life!

Set in the 1900s when literary piracy occurred before copyright law's were enacted. It involved trying to procure Robert Louis Stevenson's masterpiece after he and his family moved to Samoa. Partly fact and partly fiction in the gray area of publishers who hired agents to get manuscripts from authors and sell them for profit.

A History of Loneliness by John Boyne

Great narration of the story. The voice actor is able to portray each of the characters with different voices and you are never in doubt of which character is speaking. The narrator also portrays the different emotions that the characters are feeling through his speaking.

The story is about a middle-aged Irish Catholic priest who enters the seminary as a high school boy and lives a quiet life. He is naïve to the child sex scandal within the church and the motives of some of his peers and superiors in the church. The changes in the church and in how people outside the church see him and react to him lead him to his own examination of conscience. I thought that the story was well told and held my interest.

The Good Goodbye by Carla Buckley
Narrator Name: Ali Ahn, Suzy Jackson, and Eva Kaminsky

Rating the Audio Performance

These three narrators do an excellent job separating the female characters and find ways to make them all distinct. This book is told from the point of various narrators and flips back and forth through time. But I think the fine narration helped keep the characters clearer in my mind.

THE GOOD GOODBYE is a good, good book. It stayed with me for days, weeks actually. The story is about two cousins who grew up nearly like sisters. But the relationship is fraught with secrets and struggles as is the relationship between and among their parents. When tragedy strikes, the question is who and what relationships will survive.

White collar crime meets death sentence diagnosis in this true-life story of unfortunate circumstances. What could be more diabolical? A man is imprisoned for a year for bank fraud. While he is expecting a junket at a country club he is astounded to find that he and his lily white fellow felons are sharing a facility with lepers. He interviews inmates and patients alike and tells us their amazing stores.

I was so disappointed in this book. I don't know how on earth it received such high ratings on other sites. It was so absolutely predictable and cookie-cutter, it's ridiculous. You could see who the killer was miles ahead of the big "reveal". Honestly, it felt like more of a romance novel than it did a suspense.

I love when an audiobook is performed by the writer.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Very honest memoir. I might not have liked it so much if I had been reading it in book form. The audiobook has her music interjected throughout, which really added to the memoir. Learned things about Carly that I never knew (her family was the Simon of Simon and Schuster, Carly's stuttering problem, the issues with James). I was a little perplexed with how nice Carly was when confronting James' girlfriend Evvy though. Martha's Vineyard is a great place and I love that she still lives there after all these years.

The storyline and plot were good, but it was not my favorite of the three Cormoran Strike novels. As the plot focused around the main characters instead of a separate case, it focused more on their personal lives than I would have liked. While I enjoyed getting to know them more, I would have preferred it to stay a bit more withdrawn as with the previous two novels.

Narrator Name: Judy Kaye

Rating the Audio Performance

I truly enjoyed this reading. It kept my interest throughout the story. I can't remember which other Grafton audiobook I had tried listening to, but it was awful. I thought I didn't like the book and I found I enjoyed reading it, not listening to it. I had some trepidation with trying this on audio but Judy Kaye captured the characterization extremely well. I am assuming the audio mimicked the book and I don't believe I would have enjoyed the book either. Listening to Melissa's voice for 5 discs was too long and then with ALL the colorful language I would have been happier to do without. Rivers by Michael Farris Smith
Narrator Name: Michael Farris Smith

Rating the Audio Performance

The author read his own book on Audible. He was incredible! He knew exactly how to read for the main character and all of the minor characters of the book because, of course, he created them. His voice for the protagonist, Cohen, a man fighting for his life in an apocalyptic dystopian setting, was perfect and realistic. It was based on or around the years of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. The author had been from the area and had friends and family there but was not living there during the time. As I live in North Mississippi, we were all affected by the devastation and influx of people fleeing from the coastline. Sound, panic and fear is heard.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
This book was a wild ride! As the author had predicted, he wanted not just another hurricane or storm story, he wanted it to be " the storm ". The story contained a plot that was filled with action from page one. It was not possible to finish in one day, but it was all I could think about while I was reading. Cohen was the main character trying to stay in his home on the coast below " the line" as they called this lawless area where no one could live and be protected by law or nature from the constant destruction of hurricanes. Rain never stopped and sun never shined below the line. The people that lived below the line were people who looted and lived off others under the pretense of saviors such as the two such snake handling crooks.

Almarie Guerra has a beautiful voice that brings me right to the desert of Mexico. I hear the rattlesnakes hiss, and feel the hot dry climate. Once upon a time there was a tree where a young girl and her grandfather became friends. Young Carol is spending her summer vacation with her grandfather with dementia on his dying sheep ranch in Mexico. There Carol learns what it means to be proud of her roots. Her grandfather Segre tells Carol that when the bees come back it will end the 100 drought, and since Carol came to the ranch she is the only one to see and hear the bees. Once upon a time there was a young girl who learned the meaning of family and the love it brings. Once upon a time there was a tree and a beautifully written story for young adults. Thank you, Lindsay.

Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
Narrator Name: Cassandra Campbell, Kathleen Gati and Kathrin Kana

Rating the Audio Performance
5
The three narrators do an excellent job at portraying the personalities of the three main characters - New York socialite Caroline Ferriday, Kasia Kuzmerick, a Polish teenager who becomes a prisoner at Ravensbruk, the only all-female Nazi concentration camp, and Dr. Herta Oberheuser, the only female doctor at Ravensbruk. The narrators bring these characters alive and by the end of the story you are convinced that you know each one of them.
Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5
This is an incredible story that will leave you wanting to know more about what happened to the women, mostly Polish, who were prisoners at Ravensbruk. Caroline Ferriday and Dr. Herta Oberheuser were real people. Kasia Kuzmerick is an amalgam of a group of women and girls who became known as the Rabbits because of the horrific medical experiments they were forced to undergo at Ravensbruk. The story of these three women is told in their own voices as the story moves back and forth from New York to Paris to Poland to Ravensbruk. By the time you finish the book, you will want to know more, not only about the Rabbits of Ravensbruk but also about Carline Ferriday, who did so much to help them after WW II.

I loved this story. It was a fairly standard plot, with the twist of making the main female character a hypnotist by profession. And giving the male partner a stalker. It all drew me in quickly and kept my interest throughout. And I learned a lot about hypnotism, and had a new understanding of how stalking impacts a victim, be they male or female. All while wrapped up in a marvelous love story with all the modern permutations - 30-something female whose bio clock is ticking, internet dating, widower with male child, blended family issues, single mom issues, working single mom issues, and on and on. It was a really enjoyable experience to listen to this book.

I had read a strong recommendation from a blog about the audio version of this book and it did not disappoint. I grew up at about the same time as the author, although I was in the Midwest. It made me reflect on my experiences at the same time, although we had very few black people in our school and I really don't remember any conflict over integration at the time. The book does make you think about how language and experiences really color your outlook on things without you realizing it. I found it very thought provoking.

I liked the characters, and look forward to seeing how the author develops their story further.

Two out of three narrators were excellent. Xe Sands has a husky, whispery voice I recognized instantly as the same one I'd found so annoying in another recent book. Happily, she only narrated portions of this novel, so it was more bearable.

"Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved." Sometimes attributed to Soren Kierkegaard, this quote came back to me as I finished this book. It aptly sums up the conclusion to the Area X trilogy. It's never completely clear what triggered the creation of Area X or later, its expansion, and the fates of the various characters also remain fuzzy, as they were somehow subsumed into the new universe that the life-form behind (within?) Area X inhabits. But the world VanderMeer creates in this series is fascinating, and the story of its exploration was told in beautiful and vivid prose that will stay with me for a while.

Claire Harmon presents CHARLOTTE BRONTE: A Fiery Heart on the 200th anniversary of Charlotte’s birth. I was aware that Charlotte's life and observations contributed to the drama and tragedy of her Gothic novels.I was previously inclined to think of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1857 portrayal as the epitome of Victorian womanhood. "Fiery Heart" is such an insightful title. Additional descriptions for Charlotte that I would now use would be sensual, ambitious, rebellious, passionate, obsessive and repetitive in encouraging the re-emergence of romantic suffering and melancholy.

Not my favorite. I loved THE SHACK, but EVE was a completely different thing, and I had a hard time getting through Young's laborious descriptions of things, and introductions of still more characters, and plot details that seemed to be left dangling. A couple of the gals in my book club adored all of those things, so my opinion has softened somewhat from the complete dislike I felt while reading/listening.

I couldn't wait to spend time each day with Shadow, Wednesday and the rest of Gaiman's godly and godless cast of characters. I was melancholy when I finished listening. I suffered from book-hangover for days. It was a week before I could pick up something new.

Gaiman's tale of fading gods, faith and religion in America is still very timely. Like a good coin trick or sleight of hand, there is much to miss, so pay attention or you might miss the magic.

Growing up, my parents had shelves of old Readers Digests, and whenever I ran out of books, I would grab one. I remember reading an article written about a woman leaving Ravensbruk with her sister in a baby carriage, both recovering from experimental surgeries. Fast forward to LILAC GIRLS, and I am reading a well researched novel taking me back to an emotional moment at age ten. This book kept me riveted until the last few pages when I felt the book fell apart. Three storylines and only one fleshed out in the end, which left me shaking my head. Were the two stories cut in editing because of the length of the book? I don't know, but I was left 'wanting' in the end and can't bring myself to give more than three stars.

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

The narrator had just the right amount of phrasing and pauses to relate the story impartially, which allowed me to savor the descriptions and reflect on the situations. This was effective for me as I did not like Ove initially but grew to like him over the course of the story.

Ove was a unique man who I did not like because he was so inflexible. However, I found the story engaging and was glad that he found some new people to help him get through life and give some color to his black and white existence.

Our detective is hired by a food critic to keep an eye on two steak house owners. Leo enlists his crew of homeless to help him keep track of everyone. Despite that, there is a murder and no one knows whodunnit. Leo figures it out and tells the police so they can solve the crime. I enjoy his homeless guys. They had a good time with this caper - new clothes, food, a hundred a day. They also end up doing a little jail time because Leo is under suspicion and so, therefore, his crew. It was a good book. The resulting debacle with hot lava rocks raining down on the attendees was quite unexpected. I'll read the next one.

I just finished listening to PRIVATE PARIS, also by James Patterson, and I could not wait for the book to end. The storyline could not keep my interest. While listening to this book I kept wavering on who the killer could be. A few surprises were revealed at the end. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

This is a wonderful story. You should read THE KITCHEN HOUSE before reading this sequel so that you can appreciate the entire story of Jamie Pike, his "family" and his fears. Without preaching, the author is able to tell the horrors of slavery as well as the strength, courage, and compassion of the slaves and their struggle to survive.

These three voice artists gave authentic, heartfelt, heart-wrenching performances of their various characters. I cannot say one performance stood out among the three as they were all flawless in their deliveries. This was truly one of the best audiobooks I have ever experienced in every aspect. It was 14 discs long, 17 hours of listening that couldn't be sped up like a digital version, but I am glad I took the journey. The afterword by the author was very worthwhile.

4.5 stars. This story was very difficult to listen to at times. People say they tire of the Holocaust genre books, but with each one I read I learn something new. This wonderful book centered around the prisoners at the all-female concentration camp, Ravensbruck, and the horrific medical experiments that were performed on them. Although the camp experience was what connected the three narrators, the story of each was exquisitely rendered and encompassed much more than just time in the camps. While reading, I did not realize that Caroline Ferriday was a real person who helped the victims of Ravensbruck. I hope to visit her home on one of my future trips to Connecticut, which is now a historical landmark and museum, open in the summer months.

The story is about the existence of Nightbloods and Seers. When an Ordinary entered into their world, Rowe (Nightblood), Calli and Daphne (Seers), and Isaiah's (Ordinary) perception of each other changes. The story starts with Calli's awakening as a seer. The significance of the story won't be revealed until the secret and the meaning of the awakening are revealed. The ending will leave the listeners wondering about the story.

13 1/2 by Nevada Barr
Narrator Name: Dan John Miller

Rating the Audio Performance

Dan John Miller does a fine job of narrating the audiobook, though his voice for the women does seem a bit “forced” - a couple of times I was reminded of my father telling me the story of Red Riding Hood and how he voiced the wolf playing the grandma. The way Barr plots and tells the story is the main reason to read this book.

3.5*** Much darker and more terrifying than the Anna Pigeon series by which most readers know Nevada Barr. I was captivated from the beginning, and Barr held my attention throughout. There is considerable foul language, and some very graphic scenes of violence.

I enjoyed the book. It didn't have the impact when I finally got to the end that I would have liked, but I did appreciate the story of a couple - the wife who wants children (hubby can't) - and the prevalence of on-line porn. I appreciated that there wasn't in depth detail of child porn or pedophilic activities.

In 1916, at the height of the war, an explosion and fire at Ashton Gunpowder Mill in Kent killed more than one hundred men. Army investigation of the tragedy attributed it, most probably, to German subversive activity. In 1918, a web of hometown lies and suspicion emerge and attempt to credit the disaster to the owner, Philip Ashton. Bess attempts to help former patient (Major Mark Aston) and his family when resurfacing accusations result in the arrest of the elder Ashton. The sense of time and place is precise, as I've come to expect of Charles and Caroline Todd. Rosalyn Landor, as narrator, excels as usual.

This one I would love to give 3.5 stars. I almost stopped listening part of the way through, as it was somewhat frustrating. There are three versions of the story, and depending on if the male lead or female lead is telling that part of the story, the narrator's voice changes. This is NOT a book to zone out listening to - it takes active listening, and some good mental energy to stick with it! After re-reading reviews of the book, I buckled down, and finished the book, liking it. I think this is a great book to read with others, and discuss to see which version of the story everyone preferred (you are bound to have a favorite!), and which one everyone thinks happened.

Narrator Name: Ann Marie Lee

Rating the Audio Performance

The narrator's voice was very tiring, especially when narrating Georgia's part of the story. It was too breathy and just did not seem right for the character. I thought she did a better job with Stieglitz, although he did not seem very likeable.

Although I learned a lot that I did not know about Georgia O'Keeffe, especially her life in New York and in Lake George, I wished there had been more about her art and less about her sexual relationship with Alfred Stieglitz. I often wondered whether this was as much a story about Stieglitz as it was about Georgia O'Keeffe. I would have liked to hear more about her life and her art in New Mexico once she left Stieglitz behind.

This was a strange book. At times I am put off by too much description and not enough story. I was the complete opposite on this one. The world in which this story takes place is absolutely fascinating (no spoilers, but it takes place in the future), which is more than I can say for the actual plot of the book. The story was not that interesting, but I loved hearing about what the future was like in this story. A qualified thumbs up.

This is the story of the brief life of Thomas Meagher, an amazing man. He was a freedom fighter who encouraged his fellow Irishmen and women to fight for freedom from British. He was a powerful speaker who spoke out against the uncaring British who let the Irish starve while exporting food from Ireland during the famine. He was prosecuted for his actions and exiled to Tasmania. He escaped from Tasmania after a few years and came to the United States. During the Civil War, he recruited and led an Irish regiment against the Confederate army. Under his leadership, the Irish fought fearlessly to preserve the Union. He was heartsick when his men died. He was a forward thinker who believed in equality for all people.
