Wonderful story of a man who faced challenges head on. What a hero! I saw the movie and think there should have been a second film to share with viewers the big story of what happened when he returned home. There was a huge second chapter for Louie!

Interesting story of the first settlers of Martha's Vinyard --- the Puritans and Native Americans, Caleb being the first Native American to graduate from Harvard. Bethia, the young puritan girl with a thirst for learning, is the heroine of the story. Her relationship with Caleb is well developed and well written. We read this for our book club and all members enjoyed it; two of us listened and the others read.

This is a post-apocalyptic novel with two main characters who are trying to survive nine years after a flu plague killed 99 % of the population. The main character, Hig, survives as he tries to secure the perimeter of the airport where he lives. His only companions are his dog Jasper and a former military gun-carrying neighbor, Bangley. Finally, after the years of being alone, Hig takes his small plane and goes to search for a voice he heard from another airport three years earlier.

Rating the Audio Performance

I picked this one up because I had recently listened to Michael Crouch narrate SIMON VS. THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA and wanted to hear more. He was great in this, but Therese Plummer stole the show. Seriously, she was incredible. Not just in character voices and tone and pacing, but in putting raw emotion into her voice --- even expressing Aza's difficulty breathing accurately without taking away from the story.

Basically unlike anything I've read before. I'd call it magical realism, but it's more like magic and realism, separately. Kind of like THE WIZARD OF OZ. I don't want to go into depth because I listened to this without knowing what I was getting into and I want others to do the same.

The book conveys the warm, comfortable relationship shared by the staff and the occupants of the country’s “house.” It is filled with tidbits of information that provide insight into the lives of the “First Families” and the staff that works so hard to support them throughout their term of office. It does not reveal anything earth-shattering, but it illuminates the true personalities of the occupants, in particular, Nancy Reagan, who broke several ribs when her husband was shot, but was stoic, never revealing it and Hillary Clinton, who suffered her husband’s indignity with dignity. Little known facts that were not insulting made the book an interesting and informatitional.

Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian

Rating the Audio Performance

At the end of the audiobook I learned that the narrator was the author's daughter. She had helped him find the "voice" of the teenaged main character while he was writing and then she read the novel for the audiobook. She was very good and the fact that there was a personal element to the story did show in her performance.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4

Sad story about a troubled teen. The main character, Emily, is likable even though she is not behaving in a likable manner throughout the story. Also, I enjoyed the way Emily Dickinson's poetry and other cultural references were woven into the story. Finally, this really could almost be classified as an apocalyptic novel. It shares many of the same elements, and for Emily the central event really did end life as she had known it.

The Story: A Reporter's Journey by Judith Miller
Narrator Name: Judith Miller

Rating the Audio Performance
5

The book is read very well by the author. Her speech is modulated evenly and her tone is pitch perfect. Each word is clear and expressed perfectly, which I found unusual since my experience with a lot of authors who read their own books is that they should not have. She, on the other hand, has a wonderful speaking voice and presentation. Her emphasis was in all of the right places. I felt like she was speaking directly to me.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Judith Miller presented a very cogent version of her side of the story, exposing the ugly underbelly of the news and publishing industry as she reviewed the major events of her almost three-decade career with the New York Times and also the decade after; it is not a pretty picture. Although she had been praised for her coverage of Bin Laden and the Middle East and helped the paper win awards, when it was discovered that information about WMDs was false, although believed by her sources, most nations and intelligence agencies, she was maligned as the rats deserted her. This story is about two English women who live in India, separated by about 50 years. In fact, the contemporary woman (Anne) has familial ties to the original woman (Olivia), and she has letters and a journal Olivia wrote during her time in India. Olivia married a British official and tried to settle down as a respectable representative of the British raj. However, she didn't really have anything to do and when the local Indian ruler started to pay attention, she was susceptible. Anne finds herself recreating Olivia's life in contemporary India. It was a fascinating exploration of how both women fell in love with the Indian subcontinent and its people. This book deservedly won the Booker Prize.

In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume
Narrator Name: Kathleen McInerney

Rating the Audio Performance
3

While the reader read the story in a comfortable, resonant voice, accenting important moments with appropriate stress, her portrayal of Miri seemed to be the same when she was 15 as when she was 50. She still sounded innocent and immature and was speaking in a childlike manner.  It made me wonder whether or not the book should have been a crossover, or had a YA rather than an Adult designation.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
3

“Fifteen-year-old Miri narrates the story. She lives with her mother, grandmother and her Uncle Henry, a newspaper reporter. Like most 1950s American teens, Miri’s biggest worries are friends, homework and boys. When a Miami Airlines plane plunges into the Elizabeth River in December of 1951, her world changes. Blume brings not just Miri and her family to life, but many of the passengers on that and two other doomed flights. Although the tragic incidents are real, the characters are not. The title is based on the words of the flight attendant at the start of a flight. The book is based on how people react if and when that unlikely event occurs. It is a good read, but it is dark and gloomy with far too many characters.

This is a very interesting novel told by unreliable narrators. I liked that all of the characters were seriously flawed, but also had a softer side. Sometimes the reader despised the characters, and then just as quickly empathized with them. I ranked the story with four stars (4 1/2 if I had the option) because I guessed the ending about halfway through the book, but it did not take away from my enjoyment of reading the story to completion. Highly recommended.

Rating the Audio Performance

I happened to pick up this audiobook at the library. However, I also had the print version and began reading the book in that format --- and it was awful right from the get-go. However, I decided to give the audiobook a try in the car. I can say I wouldn't have stuck with the print book, the premise and plot were so preposterous, but Julia Whelan's performance of this book did engage me in the story and the various characters, who were real "characters"! She did a wonderful job with not-so-great material, and I would definitely look forward to listening to her other audio performances.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Probably 2.5 stars because I did actually finish. The book lost me on the first few pages. The main character is a supposedly intelligent woman lawyer who is getting married, but is sleeping with ... practically everyone. I'm no prude, but her antics in and out of the bed and while deposing a client were just completely unrealistic and ridiculous. I know this was supposed to be a humorous book, but there was little humor here I could relate to. The wedding planner was a funny and well-written character, but overall, unless you are a twenty-thrity something woman, I'd recommend passing on this one. I'm sorry to say the humor was lost on me, and the book was laughable for the wrong reasons.

Dark Recollections: Adrian’s Undead Diary, Volume 1 by Chris Philbrook
Narrator Name: James Foster

Rating the Audio Performance
5

The audiobook intro, you know the part that says “…presents ADRIAN'S UNDEAD…”, made me fear that I was in for a homemade tinny hollow sounding narration. Thank God that changed as soon as the real book started. I wasn’t sure right away if I was going to like James Foster’s performance or not mostly because of the opening few words that I mentioned above. But the more I listened the more I was mesmerized. Foster sounds like a regular guy --- not a news caster or movie preview guy --- not polished. Just real and raw storytelling. He had good characterizations and a great ability to emphasize humor and terror. I will be looking for more from him.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5

DARK RECOLLECTIONS is the diary of an everyman named Adrian: a man who is more mystery than anything else. More is revealed throughout the story little by little adding to his interesting character. Told in the journal style that I expected and was happy to hear that it worked very well. This is something, in my mind, that would be difficult to pull off. The author has to remember that it isn’t straight action and what not as many people would leave certain things like that out of their diary, and Philbrook remembered that. There were a few side stories that veered away from Adrian’s point of view, and they added more depth the outbreak epidemic.

Every Fifteen Minutes by Lisa Scottoline
Narrator Name: George Newbern

Rating the Audio Performance

Mr. George Newbern is pleasant to listen to. I didn't have to adjust the treble or bass as I do for some narrators. I listen in my car as I travel, and sometimes I have to turn the audio book off to get myself a break from the same voice for a extended period of time. With EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES audiobook, there was no turning it off. Mr. Newbern was like listening to a old friend. EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES in alone content I would have rated it two stars; however, listening to George Newbern, I give it three stars.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

OK, so this isn't my favorite Lisa Scottoline book. But, I love her just the same. I liked the main character, Eric Parrish; however, when his first problem happened, it was completely over shadowed by the main event. So the beginning was slow. Scottoline was setting up the characters only to never hear about some of them until the end. It was a little repetitive, which can make it boring. My favorite character was Eric's defense lawyer, Paul, who made me laugh in the mist of Eric's troubles. Mystery? Yes. It always kept you guessing. I would recommend this to mystery readers.

Jim Henson: The Biography by Brian Jay Jones
Narrator Name: Kirby Heyborne

Rating the Audio Performance

The narrator's voice was soft and nonthreatening much like Jim Henson's own voice. He was able to make a subtle change to designate when he was speaking as Henson. He also did impersonations of other familiar characters such as Big Bird, Rowlf, Miss Piggy and, of course, Kermit. This enhanced the joy of listening to this book.

Who doesn't love the Muppets and therefore their creator, Jim Henson? This is a well researched book done, obviously, with the cooperation of people and family close to Henson. I learned much about a man I have admired for years --- most of it very positive. This is not a whitewashed telling, however. Despite his foibles, Henson wanted and needed peace and tried to dispense his own.

THE BONE TREE is a sequel to NATCHEZ BURNING. The first book was read by David LeDoux, who captured the voices in what seemed to be more authentic southern accents. It took me a bit of time to adjust to the new narrator, but the performance is good.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Listen to NATCHEZ BURNING first. While a fair amount of time is spent catching the listener up on the story, both are long, complicated novels. Lots of violence.

The content is definitely controversial: the Blessed Virgin, Mary, doubts the deity of her son and questions his and her life after his crucifixion. My faith is not going to be changed by a fiction book written by a preeminent author. Instead, I enjoyed his word usage and sentence structure and debated within my own mind the reasons for such a scenario. Ireland by Frank Delaney
Narrator Name: Frank Delaney

Rating the Audio Performance
5

I love listening to an author read his own words, and this book is no exception! When an author is narrating his own novel, he knows where he wants the emphasis placed on phrases and how he wants his words to sound. Mr. Delaney is Irish and his telling of his story makes me feel that I am right in Ireland with him!

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

The Irish are known and loved the world over for many things. They are a very friendly and welcoming people. Their country, which I have visited on four different occasions, is one of the loveliest in the world, they are very musical, they have a wonderful sense of humour and they are wonderful storytellers! Frank Delaney's novel is about a young boy, who becomes entranced with an itinerant storyteller, and as he grows older decides that he wants to find this man again. The stories from the storyteller are about the history of Ireland, a very remarkable country. Mr. Frank Delaney is a wonderful storyteller in his own right! I highly recommend this audiobook!!!

Great historical fiction novel about a real life "character" Mazie Phillips-Gordon, who was the "Queen of the Bowery" in the 1920-30s. She saw live in New York City from her ticket box office window and helped homeless "down on their luck" people with food, money, encouragement and dignity.

Adam Johnson, Tim Kang, Josiah D. Lee and James Kyson Lee do a wonderful job narrating the audio book. Whichever of them voiced the final chapters where the interrogator begins to question his own purpose was really superb. I do wish the audio would tell us which artist is performing which parts.

I hardly know what to write. In many respects the book is as mysterious and unbelievable as the dictatorship that is North Korea. Johnson’s nonlinear timeline and use of obfuscation, lies, half-truths and prevarications keeps the reader completely off balance --- obviously mimicking what the citizens of North Korea must endure. And yet…I found it compelling and fascinating.

Poole really captures Caldwell's rhythm once she hits the liberation of college and women in this memoir recalling Caldwell' s life. I found the story line very interesting, perhaps because I was listening during Lent and much of the story line was being played out in the Gospels toward Good Friday. There were some pieces of the story that took away from the main focus of the story and it dragged a little at times. If I had read it in print rather than listened to the story, I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much. This is a great story if you have any interest in New Testament theology, the shroud of Turin or the schism between the Eastern and Western Catholic church.

The characters talked like I would think folks from Holt, Colorado would speak. Rating the Audio Performance

I listen to many audio books on my phone where I can adjust the speed of the soundtrack. With this one, I listened to the CDs, so I may not be as enthusiastic as I might be using the more familiar format. The reader spoke erratically in what I assume was a Maine accent, which should've lent credibility but put me off. I can't decide whether it was the accent or the fact that the narrator's voice was not consistent. In addition, there was a decided lack of expression in the reader's rendition of the main character's voice.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

I have read all the books in this series, and his first one, THE POACHER'S SON, was decidedly my favorite. This is the first of the series that I have listened to. Therefore, I may be more sensitive to the author's descriptions when I read. One of Doiron's strengths is his ability to put the reader in the location in which the book is set; however, that doesn't translate as well into audio. That being said, the plot was credible and the characters distinctive which made for an entertaining read. I especially liked McDonut.

This was a remarkable story of the young men from the Washington State University's rowing team who went to the 1936 Berlin Olympics and won the gold despite overcoming overwhelming odds. The individual struggles of each team member, the coaches and the builders of the boats made for a truly heroic story. Additionally, the history of that time and the attitudes were well reflected in the telling of this story. This was not only an excellent book but an important one.

This author knows how to keep readers on the edge of their seats throughout, even when the story is contrived and somewhat implausible. John Cory is watching Russian agents that are in the country under false pretenses. Actually, they are planning to carry out a diabolical plot to unleash a weapon of mass destruction on New York City. Cory is working with Tess Faraday who is also not what she seems to be either. Will the nuke make it to New York or will they be able to find it in time, disarm it and save the city? The story is told with the usual flare DeMille has for creating tension while diffusing it with underlying humor.

Rating the Audio Performance

Audio book performed by MacLeod Andrews and Nick Podehl. I have to say they do a fantastic job, though their voices were rather similar at the beginning so it took me a while to understand which was Will Grayson versus Will Grayson. Small quibble, really. Both narrators shone in voicing Tiny’s musical! Four stars for their performance. Too bad they didn’t have better material to work with.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Two teens --- both named Will Grayson --- meet in an unlikely scenario. They are very different, but suddenly find their lives intertwined. I am way over the teen angst stage, and this novel had way too much of that for my taste. But the ending…oh my stars! The musical that irrepressible Tiny Cooper comes up with celebrating love in all its glorious --- and heart-breaking --- forms was wonderful. The message of tolerance, love and acceptance is one that more of us should take to heart. Levithan’s chapters brought the rest of the rating down.

At times it was really hard to differentiate which character was who with this narrator. It took until the middle of the book to get the characters down. Most of the books I listen to I listen with my thirteen-year-old daughter, and we found ourselves going back many times to figure out who was talking in the book. Wendy Corsi Staub has a tendency to jump around with characters and tie them all in together in the end, and this made the beginning of this book difficult to follow.

H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald
Narrator Name: Helen Macdonald

Rating the Audio Performance
5

It’s often dicey when an author decides to narrate her own book. In the case of H IS FOR HAWK,  Helen Macdonald succeeds in bringing the perfect tone to her story of one woman’s journey through grief after the death of her father. Macdonald paces the lush language she has poetically written and delivers a professional performance about training a goshawk. It is her story, one she understands so that in the end we too come to understand this unusual path she chooses to bring solace to her soul and a communion with her father. I don’t think anyone could have done this better.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

H IS FOR HAWK is the story of one woman’s journey through grief after the death of her beloved father. In an effort to regain a connection with him she sets out to find and train a hawk. Not just any hawk, a goshawk. The descriptions of her goshawk, Mabel, are so vivid that I can see this bird of prey in all her regal glory. The portrait Macdonald paints of Mabel is just one of the beauties of this exquisite book. Interspersed with the detailed portrait of the patience and care it takes to train a hawk, Macdonald also writes a semi-biographical account of the author T.H. White. White is best known for his THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING but it is his book, THE GOSHAWK, which inspires and guides Macdonald in training Mabel.

The Tapestry by Nancy Bilyeau
Narrator Name: Nicola Barber

Rating the Audio Performance
5

British voice talent Nicola Barber has a beautifully feminine and cultured voice and was quite believable as Joanna. She also does well with other voices, even male. At times I had to listen to sections more than once, but I believe that was due to some of the complexities of the plot (particularly with all the alchemists of the era referenced, such as Agrippa and Paracelsus), as well as my lack of familiarity with the previous two installments in this series.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5

This book is NOT about the typical Tudor era subjects - Henry VIII, his wives, or his children. Instead, author Nancy Bilyeau has as her protagonist a fictional woman, Joanna, a former Dominican novice from a real aristocratic family, the Staffords. The tapestry in question is one that Joanna has been commissioned by Henry VIII to weave, as he has appointed her tapestry mistress. This brings her from her peaceful home in Dartford, where many of the nuns and novices from the former priory have settled, back into the dangers and intrigues of the court. Joanna apparently knows too much, and someone is trying to kill her. Bilyeau weaves many other Tudor-era personages into the novel, but keeps the story realistic.

The second in a series of three (so far) books featuring the invented character Joanna Stafford, a member of a (real) noble family in England who was a novice in a Dominican priory during the reign of Henry VIII. This book is set (mostly) in the period from October 1538 to January 1540, with the first chapter flashing forward to December 1538 and then back ten years earlier. The final chapter of the book takes place in March 1540 and seems to lay the groundwork for the third and next book in the series, THE TAPESTRY. In this installment, Joanna travels various places over a span of ten-plus years to meet three seers, who repeat the same base prophesy but add additional information each time. The prophecies all involve Joanna.

Rating the Audio Performance

With just the right tone of voice, R. C. Bray conveys the many moods of the stranded astronaut, Mark Watney, as well as portraying the NASA scientists back home and then his own crew members who might be in a position to rescue him. This novel is worth the read as an audiobook, enhanced by the fact that the main character is making audio logs to record his time on Mars as a resilient man exploring everything it takes to survive.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline

Follow Mark Watney's story as a stranded astronaut who is inadvertently left behind on Mars to fend for himself. As he maintains his sense of humor, Mark records an audio log of his efforts to survive long enough to be rescued. He is able to re-establish communication with Earth, while dealing with such annoyances as only having disco music and 1970s sitcoms to keep him distracted. I found the scientific situations fascinating as Watney has to put his botany and engineering skills to use in many life-threatening situations. In the meantime, NASA becomes aware that Mark is still alive and puts together a team to develop a rescue plan, all while the world awaits news of his fate. A captivating and intelligent sci-fi read!

The ending is so inevitable and Ove so real that the reader/listener can't bear to keep going. Ove becomes a character to cherish and hold tight.

The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez
Narrator Name: Various

Rating the Audio Performance
4

This audiobook brings the immigrant life home to the listener. At the center are Arturo and Alma Rivera who have moved to the United States from Mexico with their daughter, Maribel. Maribel, who had a brain injury from an accident, could find the best education there. The story expands as more and more immigrants come into the picture. A shocking ending is in store for listeners! The various readers carry the Hispanic accent off perfectly.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
4

The author, Cristina Henriquez, did something quite unique. The main story is about the Rivera family, who had moved from the U.S. from Mexico. But chapters sprinkled throughout the book give us glimpses to other immigrant stories. It sounds like an odd thing to do, but it really works.

Very interesting storyline. I didn't know anything about the Eugenics Sterilization Program that took place in the United States between 1929 - 1975. While Hitler's sterilization program was horrific, he learned it from us. California, just before WW2, sterilized more individuals than any other state and shared information about the program with Hitler. Why are we not hearing about this? The story took place in North Carolina, and this program saw over 7,000 of North Carolina's citizens sterilized. The program targeted the " mentally defective", "feebleminded" inmates in mental institutions and training schools and others whose sterilization was considered " for the public good

The book tells the story of Robin as she battled MDS. What I really liked about the book was how she told her journey of fighting the illness and how those around her dealt with the illness. I especially liked how she talked about how people interacted with her and what type of interaction was most comfortable for her. It has helped me with my interaction with people in my life who unfortunately are going through similar situations.

Ms. Corbett's performance of THE FORTUNE HUNTER was superb. She was able to make male voices sound truly male, which many female narrators are unable to do with total credibility, and also conveyed the various female voices as original and individual. I enjoyed her performance, which enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

An intriguing tale from a master storyteller. This short story is a wonderful introduction to the character of Jeff Resnick, created by L.L. Bartlett. As the story opens, the psychic, Jeff Resnick, is interviewing the mother of a missing child. It's a "cold case," meaning the child has been missing for eight months and the police have exhausted all their leads. As Jess Resnick meets with the mother in her apartment, he immediately senses a montage of images about the missing boy. These images come at great psychic cost to him (his empathic talent causes excruciating headaches) but he perseveres with his interview. As the images build in intensity, the story comes to a shattering climax. Excellent!

The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows
Narrator Name: Ann Marie Lee, Tara Sands and Julia Whelan

Rating the Audio Performance
5

Ms. Lee is the main narrator and she does a wonderful job, especially since the main character, Willa, is a 12-year-old girl. What makes the audio even better is that there are other narrators who read minor parts of the book such as letters. This change in voice and narration really makes the story come alive. Ms. Lee hits just the right pitch with each character and provides a vivid picture of their personalities.

Rating the Book's Content/Storyline
5

This is a wonderful book. In part a coming-of age story, a family history, and a story of the depression era in small town America -- Macedonia, West Virginia. The narrator is a 12-year old girl, Willa, who is precocious, intelligent, and trying so hard to understand adults. She comes to understand, as does the reader, that there are many truths depending on our perspective, and what we think we know may not come close to being the truth. The characters are wonderful, each with their own flaws and their own strengths and graces. This book is a treasure.

The audio performance recorded for CASTLES, CUSTOMS and KINGS by Ruth Golding is very clear, free from difficult accents and enjoyable! It's apparent Ruth is a professional, skilled reader/ performer and I appreciate her care and attention to dictation. She carefully reads the text in a clear voice free from annoying sounds. Her voice is trained and comes across as a well-trained instrument. I'm reminded of classic Broadway actors as I listen to Ruth Golding.

CASTLES, CUSTOMS AND KINGS is a must-have guidebook for historical drama readers as well as a enjoyable for historical writers as well. It's a finely crafted collection detailing the events plus describing the lives of movers and shakers who crafted the events that led to our world as we now know it today. A truly fascinating book filled with the mystery and daring moves of those who created history and explanations of the how's and whys of their worlds. Chapters on Medieval women and the garden they would be kept in add to the understanding of other books, which include these women. Reading this book is like being in the events themselves. It stirs my desires to read and discover even more about the lives of those who lived before.

The book is told through the voice of successive dogs. Each dog recognizes the previous life's owner, but each dog remembers some things from a previous life, but doesn't always have a similar disposition. The owner progresses from a toddler into her mature years and does grow and change as the years progress. Her mother, however, does not. The author did find interesting ways to describe things that the dog doesn't understand - women with towels on their heads are actually nuns. I want to read the previous story, A DOG'S PURPOSE. Mr. Cameron did an excellent job of getting inside the head of the dog.

The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce
Narrator Name: Celia Imrie

Rating the Audio Performance
5
This story is a read-along with the book THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY, also by Rachel Joyce. That audiobook was narrated by Jim Broadbent. The story in Harold Fry starts with Harold receiving a letter from Queenie Hennessy, a friend/co-worker of his that is dying of cancer in hospice across England. He decides instead of posting the letter he will walk it there and deliver it. So he drops everything and walks across England. In THE LOVE SONG OF MISS QUEENIE HENNESSY, the story starts with her wanting to write this said letter, and her side of her story with him. Both audios are excellent and I loved listening to the various voices of the characters of this story. I would recommend both, but read Harold Fry's story first.

There was great distinction between the characters (he does a great job of making bad characters sound 'bad' without going over the top). And his female voices weren't annoying. O'Brien has an ego larger than the universe and has met just about every big name in sports, entertainment and politics. He excels at name dropping. I do wonder if I had a hard copy of the book, did it really have all those "f**k" in there or do O'Brien just put his actual voice into the narration. Not much about his recovery from addiction. That would have made it a much more interesting book for me.

The book tells the story of an older white woman who is being driven to St. Louis by her younger African American hairdresser. The audience and the driver are not sure what the event is, and the audience doesn't know what the underlying relationship is between the two women. As the drive and the story progress, we learn of each character's past and what brings them to the place they are at in the present. The book is a real heartbreaker but makes you consider your attitudes towards race, friendship and fidelity. There are many surprises throughout the story. This is a book that I have recommended constantly since I listened to it!
