The one I reach for most is BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS NEW COOKBOOK, 1979. My original one wore out. Then in 1980,Better Homes and Gardens came out with ALL-TIME FAVORITE RECIPES. While visiting Sonoma, CA, I chanced upon KNUDSEN DAIRY FOOD COOKERY...filled with goodies all made with dairy products. Great appetizers, side dishes and desserts. This one is now on its second "taping" to keep it together. While rafting on the Payette River, I enjoyed a cookout with the Long family. Their small cookbook is called RECIPES FROM THE RIO...great "outdoor" recipes. The gift cookbook from my mom that I love to read is the BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS HERITAGE COOKBOOK, which features the history of U.S. cooking from colonial until 1975, with ethnic and historical changes influencing recipes and ingredients. I have even tried a few recipes that turned out pretty good. Some not.

I have so many cookbooks, but they are all lined up on shelves --- just like all my fiction and nonfiction --- and I browse them all the time. However, the two favorites I keep in my kitchen drawer are LONE STAR LEGACY and the annual Southern Living1976 edition. Of course I have a lot of the Southern Living annual books, and they go way back, but this one is my favorite.
