What book(s) could you give multiple copies of this holiday season?

[email protected]
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay or Blindness

[email protected]
I would have to say Ella Enchanted.

[email protected]
I would (and will) happily give many copies of Eats, Shoots & Leaves.

[email protected]
No doubt about it, I would give multiple copies of Jeff Shaara's latest book, To The Last Man. He is always a great read and this book is proof of the pudding.

[email protected]
I am giving multiple copies of Edmund White's Fanny: A Fiction to my friends. It is a humorous, though scathing, look at our country that we all should take note of. Truisms presented in an extremely witty fashion! I would give it 5 stars!

[email protected]
I could and will give multiple copies of the following books:
The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie R. King
Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor
The Darling by Russell Banks
My Invented Country by Isabel Allende

The one book I am giving the most of this year is On the Blue Shores of Silence: Poems of the Sea, a beautiful centenary compilation of Pablo Neruda poems.

Maureen Hoffman-Wehmeier
I would give copies of If Grace is True by Philip Gulley. In addition, I would give my favorite book of the year, All That Matters by Jan Goldstein.

[email protected]
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell or The Time Traveler's Wife. The best two books I've read this year.

[email protected]
The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

[email protected]
Wow, what book would/could I give multiple copies of? Tough to narrow down, but I would go with Ahab’s Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund and Lamb: The Gospel According To Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. For my super cool friends, if they hadn’t already read it, I would give Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. It is very thought provoking.

[email protected]
I have purchased two copies of Max Frankel's High Noon in the Cold War.

Anything by Alexander McCall Smith, author of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series. They're all great!

I would give out copies of Watership Down, one of the best books I have ever read.

[email protected]
Tom Brokaw's book A Long Way from Home.

I would give multiple copies of The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I was very impressed with this book, having lost my husband two years ago.

[email protected]
Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner

Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

Daughter of God. It is almost as good as The Da Vinci Code.

Jamille
The Secret Life of Bees and Under the Tuscan Sun

[email protected]
The Sweet Potato Queens' Field Guide to Men: Every Man I Love Is Either Married, Gay, or Dead by Jill Conner Browne. I bought a stack of them to give to all my girlfriends!!

[email protected]
I have a few books that I would purchase multiple copies of:
Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons by Lorna Landvik

All wonderful books!

Kristin in Sammamish, WA
I would love to give Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn to everyone I know!

[email protected]
Time and Again by Jack Finney. Best book ever written by anyone!

[email protected]
The Pull of the Moon by Elizabeth Berg.
I am giving multiple copies of this book to my girlfriends. We are all in our fifties now and this book speaks to women our age. The main character is a woman who raised one daughter, stayed married, and did not work, even though she is college-educated. Her daughter is grown and has moved out of the house. The mother gets in her car one day and drives and drives for weeks with no particular destination in mind. Each day she writes her husband a letter reassuring him that she does love him and wants to stay married but she must examine her life and her role in it. Very moving and right on target for a lot of us. All of Berg's books are so insightful in their understanding of women and families without being maudlin.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom

I would buy and give multiple copies of Room of Marvels by James Bryan Smith.

Marguerite Ferra, Camden, NJ
I would give multiple copies Alexander McCall Smith’s series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. I love those books.

Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

[email protected]
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

One of my favorite authors is Steve Kluger. The books that I'd give multiple copies of are: Almost Like Being in Love and Last Days of Summer. The funny thing about your question is that I have given Almost Like Being in Love to several people this year as Christmas/Chanukah presents.

Last Days of Summer was a Christmas present given to me a few years ago. I'm passing the tradition with his latest novel, Almost Like Being in Love.

[email protected]
I would (and have already) give The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom to several people as a gift.

[email protected]
The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore

[email protected]
I would give many copies of the book In Revere, in Those Days.

[email protected]
Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

Charleen
I would definitely give out multiple copies of Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven for the holiday.

[email protected]
I am giving Silas Marner by George Eliot to a number of high school students. Apparently it is no longer part of the curriculum. It’s probably part of the Republican backlash to eliminate female authors from the Cannon. This is a lovely book that I read in high school and found much more memorable than Louis L’Amour or Ian Fleming.

The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore

[email protected]
I will give each of my three sisters a copy of Books and Islands in Ojibwe Country by Louise Erdrich. Maybe this summer we will trace the trip she made with her new baby.

[email protected]
I could cheerfully give multiple copies of Losing Julia by Jonathan Hull and The Distance From Normandy, also by Jonathan Hull.

[email protected]
Mrs. Kimble by Jennifer Haigh

[email protected]
Jon Stewart’s America (The Book).

[email protected]
I will be giving The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown for gifts this year. It was an awesome book and everyone I know has either read it, is reading it, or can't wait to read it! In other words, it's on everyone's list this year!

[email protected]
I think I would give multiple copies of Karin Slaughter's first bookBlindsighted (which actually has been reduced in price to $3.99 to get people into the series) because SHE is going to be the new Patricia Cornwell --- except her books are consistently good and new and exciting to read!

To younger women, I give copies of Gavin De Becker's book The Gift of Fear because everyone should know, social customs aside, that your first duty is to protect yourself, even if it means following your instinct at the risk of seeming like a "rude young lady"!

[email protected]
The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore

[email protected]
I will be giving multiple copies of three different Amulya Malladi novels: A Breath of Fresh AirThe Mango Season, and Serving Crazy with Curry. If you have not yet read any of these, you're missing out!!

[email protected]
Philip Roth's The Plot Against America and The Bookseller of Kabulby Asne Seierstad

Kay, Largo, FL
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh

[email protected]
Easy question. The same book I've been giving out to friends and recommending as a bookseller for the last two years: Life of Pi by Yann Martel. This is the most imaginative novel written in years. Everyone must read this book.

B Snell
I could give multiple copies of The Five People You Meet in Heaven. My husband died 2 1/2 years ago and this book just touched me. Life is too short to nitpick --- I just want everyone to understand this.

Dorothy Cowling
The book that I could give multiple copies of this Christmas would be Into the Nevernight by Anne De Graaf. It is a riveting novel concerning the Lost Boys of Sudan. I found this book to be impossible to put down after I got into it and have already given a copy away, and have more set aside to give away later.

Kathryn
I would give multiple copies (if I had the resources) of The Usual Rules by Joyce Maynard as well as The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Both books are excellent and deal with issues of grief, loss, and the ways we work through them as human beings.

Mimi
I definitely would give America (The Book) to everyone on my list.

[email protected]
I am giving five copies of Pinduli by Janell Cannon. Our grandchildren LOVE her books. If you haven't read Stellaluna, you are missing a real treat.

Andi Shechter
I'm one of those very non and/or anti-holiday types and don't tend to do much for "the season" so it will probably come as no surprise that I'd be tempted, if I gave books, to give copies of Christopher Moore's The Stupidest Angel, which I reviewed here. And loved.

[email protected]
I would give multiple copies of The Sex Lives of Cannibals.

Sara B from Milwaukee Wisconsin
I would give The Complete Crockery Cookbook and The Sensational Skillet Cookbook by Wendy Louise. The recipes are easy, stress-free and adapt to my very busy lifestyle. I love her tips and hints, and they make me feel like a pro. These are cookbooks I would willingly share for the holidays.

[email protected]
I'll be giving The Lovely Bones and The Time Traveler's Wife to several friends and family members. Of the books I have read this past year, these are the ones that I can't shake.

[email protected]
I've always loved pop-up books during the holidays and the works of Robert Sabuda are extraordinary. As in year's past, Sabuda'sThe Twelve Days of Christmas: A Pop-Up Celebration is a wonderful gift to share with young children and the young at heart. Perhaps there are those who would prefer something they consider to be of a more serious literary nature; I share this book with them, as well, as I still believe in the magic we experience when we allow ourselves to see the world through the eyes of the child within us all.

Laz from New York City
The holiday season is a time to put into practice goodwill toward humanity. I plan to give dear ones, my public library, my local high school library, and my elected officials a copy of the upliftingVoices of a People's History of the United States, edited by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove. And since this is International Human Rights Week (December 6-10), all the more reason. This book tells American history through original letters, speeches and songs, brought to us from the vantage points of valorous, vulnerable, or sometimes vanquished people. This paints a rather different picture than the history we've learned through the eyes of the victorious, who often sealed their versions of events in most of the history books we have around us.

I could give multiple copies of The Kite Runner. I thought it was superb!

Lea Ann
I would and have given multiple copies of Book Lust by Nancy Pearl. This volume is a must for any book lover.

[email protected]
For the last several years I have given more copies of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books than any other book!

Elaine
I could give multiple copies of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho for Christmas this year!
