Wonderful book!!! Barbara Schamell THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN and SAYING GOODBYE TO MUM AND PUP Debbie THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett Kathy Jund I just zipped through reading Lisa Hendrix's 2nd installment of her Immortal Brotherhood Series IMMORTAL OUTLAW. I read it in one day! Last Sunday!! I give it a 15 out of 10!! Debi A RELIABLE WIFE by Robert Goolrick Cheya Weber FIRST TO DIE by James Patterson Marsha Toy Engstrom I just took the poll indicating that I am a S...L...O...W reader, however, I recently ripped through SHANGHAI GIRLS by Lisa See. (Although, I guess that's like saying the tortoise "ripped through" that infamous race with the hare...) I don't mean to imply that Lisa's book was simplistic--as many of the themes--Sisterhood, Family, Betrayal, Perspective--are quite nuanced. But rather, I simply could not put it down. Beginning in Shanghai in 1937 and wrapping up in LA's Chinatown in 1957, we follow the story of two young sisters, May and Pearl, and their many adventures. Although worlds away from us, they still struggle with what it means to be "modern women" in their day: career, family, love, and their place in the world. With a great twist at the end, I promise you will love this book! I give it a 2 pompom shake! The Book Club Cheerleader. Kathy C.
