What books are on your holiday gift-giving list this holiday season? And what books do you want to receive?

lorrainegelly@earthlink.net
I'm giving a lot of children's books to my grandchildren this year, including the Narnia collection, Madeleine L'Engle, Margaret Wise Brown. I'd like to receive Ian Rankin's new book.

ConnieDonovan@webtv.net
I am giving my son-in-law 2 of the Hornblower series and also the Hornblower Companion to go along with them.  I am giving one of my daughters a Pie cookbook and the other 2 The Fiery Cross.  Also for my daughter Kelly, Envy by Sandra Brown.  I'm giving lots of Dr Seuss books, Bob the Builder, Peter Rabbit books to my grandchildren.  Even though they are still babies I'm a firm believer in reading to them almost from birth.  I did with my own daughters and now they are readers.  I once had one of their teachers tell me that "reading is 90% of being successful in school".

I would like the Barbara Leaming book, Mrs Kennedy, and Anne Perry's new book, Funeral in Blue.  Also gift certificates to get the new Dorothy Gilman and the Anne Perry newest Thomas and Charlotte Pitt that's due out in March, Southhampton Row.

NancyKWilson@aol.com
I am giving books related to current events, such as Tournament of Shadows, authors Karl Meyer and Shareen Brysac;  Alison Wearing's Honeymoon in Purdah, and change of pace, Beryl Markham's West With the Night.  Also am giving books about Ireland.

NancyKWilson@aol.com
I enjoy nearly all books, except fiction.  I cannot become excited for fiction when so many good historical, non-fiction books are available now. I have just given 20 copies of Peter Hessler's River Town, Two Years on the Yangtze, to fellow travelers to China.  It is a wonderful writing of the author's two years as a Peace Corps teacher in a small town on the Yangtze River. I like to receive such books for myself, exotic travel books from 19th century to present.

SOPHIENED@aol.com
HOLIDAYS ON ICE BY DAVID SEDARIS IS THE ULTIMATE HOLIDAY GIFT BOOK.  IT IS FUNNY, DARK, SARCASTIC AND CAUSTIC IN A VERY REAL WAY.  IT IS ALL OF THE THINGS THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS NOT.  I HAVE GIVEN MANY COPIES OVER THE YEARS SINCE IT WAS PUBLISHED.

lisa07110@yahoo.com
I can't wait to give my mom Perhaps Today by Tim LeHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.  For me?  Ohhh I've got ALL the books I'll need in a lifetime...just kidding.  Hmmm...what don't I have that I want?...how about Helen Fielding's The Edge of Reason or any older books by Joyce Carol Oates.

DBFlight@aol.com

I have purchased several books as gifts this year as I always have believed they make the best presents.

For My Son (8): Just Tricking by Andy Griffith's
For my Brother-In-Law: Billy by Pamela Stephenson
For My Mum: The Bay by Di Morrissey

SKIPPING CHRISTMAS by Grisham

agroves@charter.net
Since I get most of my reading material from the library, I usually don't ask for books as holiday gifts, except for the occasional coffee table book. I do give books to my son, who is now 11. I'm not sure if I'll give him a book this year; if the fifth Harry Potter book were available, though, that would be a no-brainer! I may give him the audio version of one of the Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events books. He has the first two, so I may keep going through the series. I'm also thinking about the audio version of The Phantom Tollbooth, a kids' classic that we both just discovered a few months ago.

For myself, I wouldn't mind receiving the audio version of two series that I have in print: Lord of the Rings, and Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials.

I plan on giving my granddaughters several children's books. Sesame books for the youngest, Magic School Bus and Scooby Doo Mystery books for the next 2, and Goosebumps and Babysitter books for the oldest. I also have some Disney story books for them. I'm giving my grandson the Harry Potter school books as I already got him the regular books and he's so impatient for the next book that he's read them at least a dozen times.

TheAerie@skybest.com

I love surprising my mystery loving friends with new authors: This year's favorites are FULL CIRCLE, a delightful by Pat Browning and DREAM TAPESTRY by Claudia McCants, the suspenseful story of a young woman's search for her reporter father who vanished near Camp David. Both are exceptional and you can take credit for discovering someone new.

ZSRuss@aol.com

I have purchased Barbara Olson's The Final Days: The Last, Desperate Abuses of Power by the Clinton White House for my father-in-law. I also bought Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul for my husband's aunt. I buy so many books myself, it's hard to name one that I want to receive for Christmas. I guess I would have to say that I would love a gift certificate in order to buy John Grisham's The Summons when it becomes available. I am a big fan of Grisham's books, particularly the legal thrillers. Although I did read Skipping Christmas and enjoyed it so much that I had to buy a copy to keep! I might also wish to buy James Patterson's 2nd Chance when it is released
because I really enjoyed 1st to Die.
