Chris Spielman

Biography

Chris Spielman

Chris grew up in Massillon, Ohio where he played for Massillon Washington High School and was an all-star linebacker. Appearing on a Wheaties box, he was one of the youngest and perhaps only high school athletes to receive such an honor.

He is a former Ohio State Buckeye, a two-time All American and a 2009 inductee to the College Football Hall of Fame. His career in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Cleveland Browns included four Pro Bowl appearances and a NFC Championship Game appearance with the Lions. He is a College Football Analyst for ESPN and known for his hard hitting and accurate comments on the game and players. He is a co-host on ESPN's reality series, “Rise Up”, and His book THAT'S WHY I'M HERE was released in the spring of 2012. He can be found daily on 97.1 The Fan, an ESPN affiliate, in Columbus, Ohio

Other than being a dedicated father to four children, perhaps the job Chris takes the most seriously is his role as a warrior in the fight against cancer. His high school sweetheart and wife, Stefanie, lost her decade-long battle with breast cancer in November of 2009. Together, they formed The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research in 1999 and have raised more than $8.5 million for cancer research. Chris retired from the NFL to take care of Stefanie and their four children and remains committed to her legacy of hope and finding a cure for cancer.
