Jonathan Spence's twelve books on Chinese history include MAO ZEDONG (Penguin Lives
Series), THE GATE OF HEAVENLY PEACE, and THE DEATH OF WOMAN WANG. He teaches at Yale
University. His awards include a Guggenheim and a MacArthur Fellowship.
